Funeral services for David Marion Downs, 68, of Neola, who died at his home on Monday, will be held at the residence Wednesday at 2 p.m. Mr. Downs was a member of a pioneer family which came to Pottawattamie County in 1848 where the family has resided ever since. His great, great grandfather was Ezekiel Downs, who came into Iowa with the Mormons. Ezekial was buried at Downsville Cemetery where David Downs will also be interred.

The first marriage license to be issued in Pottwattamie County, members of the family say, was to Suzanna Downs and John G. Smith at Pleasant Grove, a town now extinct, on November 4, 1848. Suzanna was Ezekiel's daughter.

David Downs was born December 1869 at Downsville. On May 1889, he was married to Delia Heft. He devoted his life to farming and stock raising.

Surviving Mr. Downs are two sons and a daughter: C.B. Mayhew of Council Bluffs; David, jr. of San Francisco, CA and Irene, Mrs. George L. Santo of Lincoln, NE. Three brothers are: Willis, Herbert and Thomas Downs, who reside near Neola. One sister, Mrs. Fannie Sexton, is near Logan. There are ten grandchildren.
