THE OBITUARY OF

Joseph Duncan

Joseph Duncan

Council Bluffs friends of JOSEPH DUNCAN, who up to four or five years ago was a resident of this city, will regret to hear of his death of Spanish influenza in camp at Waco, Texas, where he was in the service. Word of his demise was sent to the Nonpareil by an uncle, Joseph Farrell of Peru, Illinois. At the time of his residence here Joseph Duncan was engaged in the shoe business with John Duncan, also a nephew of Mr. Farrell's.

While a resident of this state he attended the St. Joseph School and upon completing his course there entered Creighton College in Omaha. He was greatly interested in all kinds of athletic sports and played upon baseball teams hereabouts for several seasons. After going to Illinois, he and his brother engaged in the grain and farming business.

His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, and a sister, Mary, reached camp only a few hours after his death. The trip home was saddened by the thought he had just been granted a furlough and the papers were prepared, only awaiting his signature.

The remains were interred in St. Vincent's Cemetery at LaSalle, Illinois, the childhood home of the parents.

Besides the parents and sister, he is survived by two brothers, John J. and Francis.
