EAST POTTAWATTAMIE SUFFRAGISTS MEETINGAvoca, Iowa, Saturday, December 9, the suffragists of east Pottawattamie County met at Oakland for the purpose of reorganizing and electing officers and adopting plans for future work. The delegates were met by a committee and escorted to the Congregational church where a chicken dinner was being served. After doing ample justice to the bountiful repast, they were escorted to the lovely residence of Mrs. Setz, where some twenty one ladies assembled. Mrs. Jenks was re-elected chairman, Mrs. A.C. Van Druff, secretary; Mrs. Rust of Oakland, treasurer; Mrs. Jean Tittsworth of Avoca, assistant secretary. Mrs. Catt's letter to Iowa suffragists was read and the organization adopted plans for future effort, trying to obtain municipal suffrage from the legislature of 1917, and also to get the legislature to again pass a bill for another suffrage referendum. Mrs. Carse gave a short outline of the efforts made by the W.C.T.U. to throw out the returns of the suffrage election of June 5 on grounds of fraud. If successful a new election will be held. Mrs. A.C. Van Druff drew up a plan for securing members to county organizations which was adopted. A card system of canvassing the women of the county was adopted. It was voted that 25 cents be the membership dues. As all present joined the county organization, treasury starts out with $5, to which more will soon be added. So much was accomplished during the afternoon, and such determination to carry on the work, that all departed delighted and with many thanks to the hostesses for their hospitality.
