Evans Cemetery - Lake Township

Evans Cemetery
185th Street & Heron Lane E
Lake Twp., Pottawattamie Co., Iowa

Evans Cemetery is located on Section 6, Lake Township. Lake Township was formed from Garner Township in 1925.

In the 1885 Illustrated Atlas of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the land around this cemetery was owned by Jno. Evans, Jane Evans, Jos. Evans and Sarah Evans.

The earliest burial is Evan Evans in 1864. While collecting obituaries, reference was made to the cemetery being located on the Joseph Evans farm.

The Evans Cemetery also been referred to as Blackwood Cemetery. It is thought that the name of Blackwood Cemetery comes from the fact that Joseph Evans came from Blackwood, Wales.

Instructions: Leave Council Bluffs via North Broadway. At the city limits on North Broadway the road is known as L-20 also called Old Lincoln Highway. Approximately 3 miles from the city limits turn right on 185th Street. At about 1 mile turn left (West) onto Heron West.
(At the intersection of Heron and 185th--one side is East and the other is West -- 185th runs sort of northeast from the highway.)
You will see the cemetery on the right side (north) of the road.
