THE OBITUARY OF

Bridget Finucane

BOUGHT HER OWN COFFIN

Bridget Finucane, an Eccentric Woman,

Dies at the Age of Ninety-Seven Years

Mrs. Bridget Finucane, an old lady who has for many years lived a life of solitude in this city, her late home being in a one room cottage, just west of the court house on Fifth Avenue, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on her 97th birthday. Death resulted from old age. Deceased predicted the date of her death in the fall of 1890, and in preparation for her burial she purchased her coffin of Morgan, the undertaker. She also bought a shroud, and paid for the work of digging her grave and the expenses of hiring a hearse and carriages for her funeral. The coffin and shroud she has had at her home since December 1, 1890. From the time of her prediction she has patiently awaited the arrival of the grim reaper. Wednesday she was taken sick. Neighbors and friends waited upon her and did all in their power to make her as comfortable as possible.

Grandma Finucane had many friends. She was a member of the Catholic Church and her acquaintance is largely among the regular attendants upon devine services at church. She was always at church when able to leave her home.

The body was placed in the casket and now lies in state at St. Francis Xavier church. The casket is covered profusely with floral tributes, and upon a silver plate on the lid appears in the inscription, “At Rest.” The funeral will take place from St. Francis Xavier Church at 9 o’clock this morning. Interment at the Catholic Cemetery. The pall bearers will be J.J. Brown, James Mithen, Martin Hughes, Henry Paschal, John Dohany and James Wickham. (No gravestone)
