Robert D. Gardner, Sr., 55, 2728 Avenue L, died of cancer Sunday at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gardner was a Council Bluffs native and lifetime resident. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School, and had worked as a local carpet installer for 30 years. He was a member of Fairview Pioneer Church Board of Directors, and a member of the Council Bluffs Eagles No. 104. He and his wife Betty were married 38 years.

Survivors besides his wife include three daughters, Kim Lawton, Cindy Redding and Barb Davis of Council Bluffs; one son, Robert "Skeeter", Jr. of Council Bluffs; stepmother, Nolma of Council Bluffs; six sisters, Mary Hall, Mamie Messinger, Gloria Larsen, Edith Lacz, Janice Turner and Kathy Walter of Council Bluffs; four brothers, James, Raymond, Kenneth and Joseph of Council Bluffs; two half sisters, Sherry Nelson and Bonnie Gardner of Council Bluffs; three half brothers, Bobby, Jerry and Steve of Council Bluffs; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
