THE OBITUARY OFPvt. Larry A. Garrison |
Pvt. Larry A. Garrison, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ruby of 1620 Avenue A, was fatally wounded in the Vietnam War, his parents were informed by marine officials. He was the 20th Council Bluffs area serviceman to lose his life in the war and the seventh man from Council Bluffs this year.
The Marine's parents were told by the Defense Department their son was killed by rifle fire. He was with the Headquarters Company, First Marine Division, assigned to the public information office.
His ambition was to own a photo studio when he left military service. Pvt. Garrison's last known assignment was as an aide to a civilian news correspondent. He was near Phu Bai, 100 miles south of the Demilitarized Zone according to a letter received from him last week by his parents.
He attended Thomas Jefferson High School. He was home for a short leave in August 1967, after completing basic training at San Diego, CA. He left for Vietnam in June 1968, after attending a public information school at Prisidio of Monterey, CA.
Survivors besides his parents include: three sisters, Farel Ann at home, Mrs. Mary A. King and Mrs. Edgar Giesler both of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Frank E. at home and Army Spec. 5 John M, stationed in Korea.
The body will be returned to Beem Belford Funeral Home here for services and interment. (no gravestone)
