THE OBITUARY OFMichael Goodwin |
Michael Goodwin, who came to Pottawattamie County in the early Mormon settlement in this part of the state, and who was one of twelve white men to make a treaty with the Indians at Bellevue, concerning rights of settlement in Nebraska territory, died at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at his home, 1800 Avenue B, from troubles incident to old age. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Goodwin has been confined to his home, and much of the time to his bed, since about the first of the year. He leaves two sons, Mack Goodwin and Will Goodwin, both of this city and three daughters, Mrs. William Cartwright of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Thomas Carrey, and Mrs. Milton Beckley, both of this city.
Mr. Goodwin was a native of Putnam County, Indiana. He came to Pottawattamie County in 1847, in the Mormon emigration, and, with others settled at Reels, near Crescent. He has made this his home ever since. For many years he followed the business of buying stock for the old Boyd Packing House in Omaha, long prior to the establishment of South Omaha and before the big packing houses of that city were even thought of. (Buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery)
