Herman E. Groneweg

Herman E. Groneweg, 66, died at a local hospital after three week's illness. He was the son of the late Senator William Groneweg and Mrs. Groneweg, pioneer residents of Council Bluffs. He was born in Council Bluffs and educated in the public schools here, and also was graduated from Iowa State College at Ames.

Upon completion of his college training. he entered the Groneweg and Schoentgen Wholesale Grocery Company and was serving as vice president of the company at the time of his retirement in 1941. He volunteered his services to the ration board and during the last year, had devoted his entire time as a member of the rationing board. He helped to organize and was a member of the board of directors of the new First National Bank as well as a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by three sisters, Kate and Hattie Groneweg, and Mrs. Painter Knox; one brother, Richard Groneweg; one niece, Mrs. Esther Halloran; three nephews, Ernest Groneweg, William Knox of Council Bluffs and Capt. Ohio Knox of Camp Stenman in California; two grand nieces, Katherine Halloran and Linda Kay Knox; two grand nephews, Robert Knox of Council Bluffs and Capt. Ernest S. Groneweg of Greenville, SC.

The body will lie in state at his home 140 West Washington Avenue until the hour of the funeral. Burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
