THE OBITUARY OFIsaac Hoops |
Information was brought to this city last evening by Mr. J.W. Anderson of the accidental death of Isaac Hoops, an old and respected citizen of Silver Creek Township, in this county. Mr. Hoops and his son were out with a team and wagon yesterday attending to some necessary work, and on coming to a gate, Mr. Hoops alighted from the wagon and opened it to pass through.
As soon as the gate was opened the horses suddenly sprang forward and started to run, when he jumped in front of them and threw up his hands to stop them. They ran on, however, and striking him, knocked him down. The team was stopped as quickly as possibly, by the son, and going back to his father found him dead - his neck having been broken, either by being struck with the tongue of the wagon or by the horses.
The deceased was aged 54 years and was one of the oldest residents of Silver Creek Township, and high respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and two sons aged 10 and 18 years respectively, to mourn his sad and sudden death. The younger son has been attending the Institution for the Deaf and Dumb in this city, and accompanied Mr. Anderson out to his home last evening. Brothers of the deceased and Mrs. Hoops have been telegraphed the sad intelligence and will probably arrive in time to attend the funeral, which will likely be held tomorrow afternoon.
