THE OBITUARY OF

Ed Irons

Ed Irons

Ed Irons died at his residence on Second Street, Monday night, at about 11 o'clock of heart disease. He went to bed in his usual health, after eating a hearty supper, and at the hour mentioned his wife heard him making a peculiar noise and touched him, and found that he was unconcious and rapidly nearing the end. She hastily called her sister from the next room, but before any human aid could reach him, he was gone. It is supposed that he never waked from his slumbers but when he closed his eyes in sleep upon retiring it was a sleep the sleep of death.

Mr. Irons was a man about 46 years of age, but little past the prime of life and in strong and vigorous manhood. For some years previous to his death he had been engaged in the milling business, formerly in the City Mills on Washington Avenue, and later as a partner in the Crystal Mills on Main Street, but about a year and a half ago he sold out his interest in the milling business, as he was being troubled with his lungs, and supposed the dust was injurious to him. After selling out his business, he accompanied by his wife, took a trip to California for the benefit of his health, and after a sojourn of three months, he returned to Council Bluffs apparently as robust and hearty as any man.

About three weeks ago he bought an interest in what is now the Council Bluffs Lumber Company, and was elected secretary-treasurer. Mr. Irons was an upright, honored and respected citizen of the community, a conscientious Christian, a devout member of the Baptist Church, and at the time of his death, one of the deacons of the church and superintendent of the Sunday School.

The funeral services will occur at the family residence at 2 p.m. Thursday, and at the church at 2:30, at which all of the members of the Sunday school are especially invited, after which his remains will be laid away in the Silent City on the hill by the side of his three children who have gone before.
