THE OBITUARY OFLydia (Bradshaw) Jackson |
Lydia Bradshaw Jackson, the daughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Bradshaw was born in Edgar County, Illinois, September 14, 1839, died at her home in Avoca, Iowa, November 16, 1918, aged 79 years 1 month and 2 days. She came from a family of pioneers, her parents having emigrated from West Virginia to the middle west in 1840. When she was six years old the family moved from Illinois to Mahaska County, Iowa and in May 1851 they came to Cass County, Iowa, establishing their permanent home near Lewis.
On August 6, 1867, Lydia Bradshaw was united in marriage to John F. Jackson and the young couple made their first home in Harrison County, Iowa. Two years later moving to what was to become their home for over thirty years, the farm in Knox Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. About sixteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Jackson retired from the farm moving to Avoca where they have since resided.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, John F. Jackson and five children. Alice M., who resides with her father in Avoca, W. H. who lives on a part of the home farm in Knox Township; Mrs. Lena Carter of Chewelah, Washington; Charles H. who resides on the home farm in this township and Edwin R. of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Mrs. Jackson will be mourned by a host of friends who will recall her ready and generous hospitality, her constant sacrifice for the good of others and her humble, sincere efforts to help and to serve. She had for years been a member of and a faithful worker in the Congregational Church of this city and her life bears witness to the Savior who gave Himself that others might live.
