Death of Adam Jacobs

Adam Jacobs passed away at his home on the south side Wednesday evening after several months illness from cancer of the stomach. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 o’clock at the St. Mary’s church.

Adam Jacobs was born in Germany, November 12, 1853. He came to America with his parents when two years of age, settling at Mendota, Ill., where he grew to manhood. In 1880 he with his two brothers, George and Cass, came to Avoca and started the Avoca Foundry, Wagon and Blacksmith shop, which they have conducted in the name of Jacobs Bros., up to the present time.

In 1882 Adam Jacobs returned to Mendota, Illinois where he was united in marriage to Miss Helena Reiter. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Laubert Frost, Mrs. Ira Derby, who passed away about five years ago, Harry Jacobs, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Miss Marie Jacobs of Omaha. Besides his wife and children he leaves two brothers, Cass and George of Avoca.

Adam Jacobs had served on our town council and school board, always working for the interests of the community. He was an honorable and upright citizen with innumerable friends, who extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Date of Adam Jacobs death was January 10, 1924, and was buried in the Avoca Cemetery.
