THE 1883 BIOGRAPHY OF

R. S. Jeffryes

R. S. Jeffryes, farmer, P.O. Carson, was born in Mercer County, Ill., August 30, 1857; his father, T. W. Jeffryes, was born in 1818, in London, England, and came to America about 1841, living in different parts of Illinois till 1868, when he came to Pottawattamie County, where he still lives. Subject's mother, E. J. (Hamilton) Jeffryes, was born in 1818, in Indiana, December 27, 1830, and is living and is the mother of five children--William T., Robert E., R. S., F. I. and F. H.

Mr. Jeffryes attended the common schools and then, for three terms, attended Malvern Normal School, where he intends to graduate. He began life as a farmer in Pottawattamie County, and he now owns 320 acres in Woodbury County, which he is rapidly improving.

Mr. Jeffryes' parents settled on the farm of 160 acres, on which they now live, in 1868; it was at that time entirely unimproved, but is now in a good state of improvement. Mr. Jeffryes is a Democrat.
