THE OBITUARY OFOwen Jones |
Owen Jones, for fity years a farmer in Crescent Township, was born in Dembershire, North Wales, January 18, 1831, being one of six children of William and Ann Jones, farmers of that place. At the age of 9 years, he was bound out to a farmer for four years. He then went to sea on an English sailing vessel, serving for six years. When 20 years of age he came to this country on the steamer Orient, landing at New York after a voyage of two months, January 3, 1852.
He visited Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Pittsburg, finally locating in Cincinnati as a machinist in a cabinet shop staying there for two years. From there he went to Illinois, being engaged in the occupation of coal mining at Alton and Alma, Illinois, then going to St. Louis and finally locating in Council Bluffs in 1861. He at first located at Big Grove, on the banks of the Missouri, north of town and in 1866 moved to the farm in Crescent Township on which he died January 18, his eightieth birthday.
He was first married to Mrs. Hannah Jones and in 1906 was married to Mrs. Mary E. Brewer of Crescent City, who survives him. He is survived also by one nephew, Evan Jones, and two stepsons, C.E. Brewer and J.W. Brewer.
The funeral will be held from the Crescent City Church of the Latter Day Saints at 10 o'clock this morning, interment being at Crescent Cemetery.
