George William Kauke


George William Kauke

Macedonia, Iowa, October 14 - GEORGE WILLIAM KAUKE, son of Christian and Ann Kauke was born August 14, 1857 near Ottawa, Illinois. He died October 7, 1918, aged 61 years. When about 12 years of age he came with his parents to Silver Creek Township, Pottwattamie County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He then engaged in business for a few years in Macedonia. On May 17, 1883 he was united in marriage to Ella Robinson, who preceded him in death January of the present year.

No children were born to this union, but one daughter, Mrs. Earl Knocke was given by adoption. In the year 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Kauke moved to Cherry County, Nebraska. In the year 1888 they returned to Pottawattamie County and settled on the farm now known as Pioneer farm where he continued to reside until his death. For some years Mr. Kauke had been a sufferer from the effects of a weak heart, but about the 25th of August he took seriously ill and was compelled to take his bed. From this illness he never rallied only at intervals. On the morning of the 29th of August, Rev. N. Paul Barton was called to the home and there in the presence of a few of the relatives administered to him the sacrament of baptism and at the same time received him into the Methodist Episcopal Church.

The deceased was a Mason in good standing in the Ruby Lodge No. 415 of Macedonia. He leaves his daughter, Mrs. Earl Knocke, one brother, Hon. Frank K. Kauke of Fresno, California, three sisters, Mrs. N.E. Breneman, Mrs. John Clark and Mrs. John R. Martin of Macedonia.

The funeral was held in the M.E. Church of Macedonia, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the Masonic order. Rev. N. Paul Barton gave the funeral address. The pallbearers were J.H. Denton, W.P. Dinwiddie, Frank Galloway, J.W. Hamilton, H.A. Smith, and W.E. Smith.
