THE OBITUARY OFSergeant Thomas Edward Langan |
Sergeant Thomas Edward Langan, member of Company L, 168th Infantry, died November 27 of lobar pneumonia while convalescing from wounds received in the hip November 7. Sergeant Langan had been wounded three times. He recovered from his second wound in time to take part in the last big drive by the Americans up through the Argonne forest. The parents of the young soldier, Mr. and Mrs. James Langan, 1715 South twelfth Street, received notification Wednesday of their son's death. Sergeant Langan was 23 years old, was born and raised in this city, a member of the St. Francis congregation and a graduate of St. Joseph School. He enlisted in Company L just before the organization was called into federal service to go to France. (St. Joseph Cemetery, Section C, Row 7, 1895-1918)

Thomas Langan was a sergeant in Company L and died of pneumonia on November 27, 1918, at Base Hospital No. 19, from the effects of a slight wound received in the last advance of the Council Bluffs company. He was to have been commissioned but died a few days before time to take his oath and was awarded the distinguished service cross.
