Mrs. Laura Leonard, 85, 1520 McPherson Avenue, former Pottawattamie County Superintendent, died Thursday at a local hospital Mrs. Leonard had been in ill health for about a year, following a stroke.

A native of Prince Edward, Canada, Mrs. Leonard had lived in Pottawattamie County 67 years. She attended the old Council Bluffs High School and Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in the Pottawattamie County rural schools 25 years, including 15 years in Garner Township District 10. Mrs. Leonard held two state teaching certificates; one granted on her years of teaching experience, the other on examinations. From 1921 to 1927 she was deputy county school superintent. She was county school superintendent from 1927 to August 1948, when she retired.
