JOSEPH L. LETAK, 44, 2239 North Nineteenth Street, Omaha, a tailor who suffered a skull fracture Saturday morning when he fell about twenty feet and landed on a concrete floor in the Pottawattamie County Jail where he was being held as a prisoner, died at 4:15 p.m. at Mercy Hospital.
Letak had laid down on the cat walk on the third tier of the jail bullpen and fell asleep and when he rolled over he fell off to the concrete floor below. He suffered a severe fracture that extended through the middle of his skull, bruised left hip and leg.
Letak was arrested by police May 4 for theft of a bag of money from a local tavern and the next day was bound over to the grand jury. He was being held in the county jail when unable to post a $500 bond.
The body was removed to the Brewer-Korisko Funeral Home, 4609 South Twenty-Fourth Street, Omaha.
