THE OBITUARY OFTheodore Lund |
FOUND COLD IN DEATH
Mr. J. M. Thomas was surprised yesterday morning when he visited Theodore Lund's room over 14 North Main Street to find him cold in death. It was about 9 o'clock in the morning when Mr. Thomas visited his sleeping apartments for the purpose of attending to the fire so that the sick man's room would be comfortable and finding the fire out he turned to where Lund was lying on the bed and made some remark to which there was no response. A second glance and the horrible discovery was made that the poor fellow was cold in death. The surroundings showed that he had died of hemorrhage of the lungs, being a victim of consumption. Mr. Thomas at once reported the sad news to Undertaker Estep and later in the day the body was removed to the morgue.
Deceased was one of our old time respected citizens of Danish birth and was about forty seven years of age. He came directly to Iowa from his native land stopping at Davenport for a short time and then locating in this city where he has resided for the past eighteen years. During his residence here he had by prudence and good management saved up quite a neat little sum.
He was a man who made friends of all his associates and was one of the founders of the Danebo Society of which he was president for a number of years and an honored member at the time of his death. He was also a prominent member of Humboldt Lodge No. 274 I.O.O.F. Shortly before his death he was engaged at Marquette, NE, where he held a responsible position in a bank. The ravages of the disease, consumption, of which he was a long time patient forced him to resign and he returned to this city where he gradually grew worse until death came to his relief. He was never known to have a hemorrhage before and the first caused an untimely death.
He has a brother living in Omaha, NE, and a sister at Springfield, IL. The former was notified and responded at once.
The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from Esteps undertaking rooms, and will be under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and Danebo Society, Mr. Chris Brown, of Omaha officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
