THE OBITUARY OFDaisy Winifred (Dewell) Madden |
Mrs. Daisy Winifred Dewell Madden, 68, wife of J.A. Madden, 324 Stutsman Street, retired manager of the Council Bluffs exchange of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, died at 8 p.m. Monday at Pasadena, California according to word received here by members of her family. She had just rested her head on a pillow when she was seized with a heart attack and died suddenly. Her son, Jerry, and a daughter, Esther, were with her. Mr. and Mrs. Madden left June 19 on a vacation trip to the Pacific coast and were nearing the end of their trip as they had planned to return to Council Bluffs on August 19. Members of the family here said that funeral services will probably be held in California and the body cremated.
Mrs. Madden was born August 26, 1870 at Clarence, Iowa, and came to Council Bluffs in 1909. She was a sister of the late District Judge J.S. Dewell of Missouri Valley, Iowa, who was fatally injured in a highway accident several years ago south of Council Bluffs. She was a member of the Scottish Rites Ladies at Omaha and the Broadway Methodist Church in Council Bluffs.
Other survivors are: another daughter, Ruth Madden, at home; and three brothers, Frank Dewell, Moulton, Iowa, Herman and Fred Dewell, both of Clinton, Iowa.
Funeral services for Mrs. J.A. Madden were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Woodring’s Chapel with the Rev. George D. Crissman and the Rev. A.A. Heath officiating. Pallbearers were George Gillaspy, W.B. Matheson and Harry Dixon, John Buckingham, Harvey Morse and Antone Yost.
Burial was in Memorial Park.
