Esther Winifred Madden--Obituary

Miss Esther Winifred Madden, 57, 324 Stutsman Street, died Monday at her home. The attending physician said death was due to a heart attack. Miss Madden had taught English at Thomas Jefferson High School since 1941. She came to Council Bluffs in 1935, first teaching at Washington Avenue School. She was born at Missouri Valley. Miss Madden received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska in 1927 and her masters degree from the University of Missouri in 1930.

Her teaching career began at a rural school near Sidney, Nebraska. She also worked for the Sidney, Nebraska Telegraph newspaper as a Nebraska educational adviser. She did radio advertising work at Sidney before coming to Council Bluffs to serve in the local school system. Miss Madden was a member of Broadway Methodist Church and Harmony Chapter 25, Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include: sister, Miss Ruth Madden of Council Bluffs; nephew, Jerry A. Madden and nice, Miss Patricia Lucille Madden, both of Mannheim, Germany. Woodring Funeral Home is in charge.

Esther Winifred Madden—Funeral Services

Funeral services for Miss Esther Winifred Madden, 57, of 324 Stutsman Street, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Woodring Chapel. The Rev. Glenn R. Parrott, pastor of Broadway Methodist church will officiate. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Broadway Church. Miss Madden, English teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School, died Monday at her home following a short illness.
