John A. Matzen


John A. Matzen

Rites of John A. Matzen, 88, retired pioneer farmer of Minden, who died Friday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julius Kitnick of Avoca, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Minden Congregational Church. A short service will be held at 1 p.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Wulff of Minden. Mr. Matzen, who came to Minden in 1879, farmed there until 1931. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Kutnick, Mrs. Wulff and Mrs. Olga Schilling of Hermin, Minnesota. The body was taken from Cutler Mortuary.

John A. Matzen, 88 died of pneumonia at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julius Kutnick of Avoca. He had been ill a week.

Mr. Matzen was born in Germany coming to America in 1867. He moved to Minden in 1879 where he farmed until making his home with his daughter.

Surviving him are one son, William of Parma, Idaho; three daughters, Mrs. Olga Schilling of Herman, MN, Mrs. Lillie Wulff of Minden, and Mrs. Kutnick, and ten grandchildren. Burial in the Minden Cemetery.
