THE OBITUARY OF

Mary E. McKenna

Mary E. McKenna

Death failed to separate MARY E. McKENNA, 67, and Mrs. SUSAN CLARK, 75, sisters, lifelong companions living at 2804 Avenue J, for more than a few hours yesterday, when influenza and pneumonia took the life of Mrs. Clark less than twenty-four hours after the death of her sister, Miss McKenna, who died of the same disease yesterday morning. The two sisters had been inseparable companions all their lives, Mrs. Clark having lost her husband, while yet a young girl, in the civil war, which he entered soon after their marriage, never to return. Bodies of the two sisters were removed together to the Hoffman funeral home at Omaha, and a double funeral will be held.

Frank McKenna, a brother, died twenty-three years ago today. The sisters leave two other sisters, Sarah McKenna of 2200 Avenue D, and Mrs. J.S. Allen of the same address; five nieces, Mrs. W.E. Jacobson, 2187 Avenue D; Mrs. J.A. Joster, 2200 Avenue D; Mrs. Roy Wilson, Twenty-Second Street and Broadway; Mrs. F.C. Copeland, South Eighth Street, and Miss Hazel Groon, who lived with them; also her nephew, W.F. Groon, his wife and four children with whom they made their home.

William Frederick, 3 year-old son of W.F. Groon also is sick of influenza and pneumonia.

When Mrs. Clark lost her husband in the civil war, the two sisters lived in Omaha. They moved to Creston, where they stayed for eighteen years. Thirty-five years ago they moved to 2804 Avenue J where they have made their home since. Nonpareil, Tuesday, May 4, 1926, page 1

Funeral services for the two sisters who died here on succeeding days after a life of continuous companionship, were held jointly from the Hoffman-Crosby Chapel, Omaha, this morning at 8:45 o'clock, and at the Holy Family Church here at 9:30 o'clock. Burial was made in St. Joseph Cemetery here.

The two sisters, Miss Mary E. McKenna, 61, and Mrs. Susan Clark, 71, of 2804 Avenue J, died Monday of influenza and pneumonia. They had been residents of Council Bluffs for thirty-five years. They are survived by: their nephew and family with whom they made their home and two sisters, Miss Sarah McKenna and Mrs. Catherine Allen.
