THE OBITUARY OFJoseph Michener |
Joseph Michener, 55, well known in this section as a real estate dealer, died Thursday night at his home, 517 South First Street, after an illness of ten days. Mr. Michener was born in Hamilton County, Indiana, and had lived in Council Bluffs for twenty years. Mr. Michener's realty operations were practically all farm land deals and were not confined to his own state, but covered numerous states.
He also had an extensive reputation as a horseman and horse buyer. During the World War he purchased for the English and French governments something like 80,000 head of horses for the use of those nations in the great conflict. In connection with this work he conducted inspections for the governments at Cheyenne, Wyoming and Billings, Montana.
Mr. Michener was known among his friends as being possessed of a most charitable disposition and it is their testimony that he never turned a deaf ear to the appeal of those in actual need.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Miss Velma Michener and Mrs. Alma Michener McAlpine and his mother, Mrs. Tabitha J. Michener, all of this city, two brothers, Thomas J. Michener of Harlan and Edgar Michener of Sioux City; and two sisters, Miss Ida E. Michener of this city and Mrs. Edna Mann of Omaha.
Mr. Michener was a member of the Modern Woodman Camp of Oakland and of the Broadway Methodist Episcopal Church.
The body was removed to Cutler's Funeral Home and funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, 517 South First Street; Rev. W.E. Mann officiating, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
