THE OBITUARY OFJohn Stewart Moats |
JOHN STEWART MOATS, aged 72 years, died early Sunday morning at the home of his son, Charles W. Moats, 441 Park Avenue. He had been a resident of Council Bluffs since 1912 coming here from his former home of Ravenna, Nebraska.
He was a member of Abe Lincoln Post G.A.R. of this city. He was also a charter member of Ravenna Lodge of Odd Fellows of Ravenna, Nebraska.
Mr. Moats was a member of Company E, Ninth Regiment Iowa Infantry. He enlisted March 12, 1864, and was discharged at the close of the War in July of 1865.
The body was removed to King's parlors and will remain there to be viewed by friends until Tuesday morning. The son with whom he made his home and a son, Clarence A. Moats of 3613 Avenue A are the only surviving relatives.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence of the son, Charles W. Moats, 441 Park Avenue. Dr. A.E. Vanorden officiating.
Burial will be in the old solders' plot in Fairview Cemetery. All old soldiers are requested to meet at King's Undertaking Parlors Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock to attend the funeral.

The old soldiers and the Odd Fellows attended in a body. The old soldiers gave their ritual and music was furnished by Colonel Tulleys and John Graham.
The active pallbearers were: William Wiese, A.M. Sims, H.J. Hancock, J.C. Vollstedt, E.W. Sealor and B.B. King, all members of the Odd Fellows. The honorary pallbearers, all old soldiers, were F. Smith, John Epperson, William Roper, Sr., J.J. Williams, Henry Perrine and H. Alexander. Burial was in the Old Soldiers' Plot in Fairview Cemetery.
