THE OBITUARY OFMartha Jane Mott |
MRS. MARTHA JANE MOTT, 87, widow of Arzo Mott, died November 1 at her home in Stuart, Nebraska, after an illness of three weeks. She was born in Missouri and had lived in Stuart the last eighteen years.
She is survived by three sons, George Mott of Vail, South Dakota, Felton E. Mott of this city and Leonard A. Mott of Stuart, Nebraska; four daughters, Mrs. Ada M. McClelland of San Jose, California, Mrs. Clara E. Ewing of Norfolk, Nebraska, Mrs. Nora A. Higgins of Woodland, California and Mrs. Nellie H. Clark of Newell, South Dakota, and one brother John W. Holman of Little Sioux. The body was brought here and taken in charge by Cuter and Son, morticians.
One of the city's pioneers, who died during the last year was Mrs. Martha Jane Mott, nee Holman, who came to this city three-quarters of a century ago, when it was Kanesville.
She died November 1 and funeral services were held on November 5, with burial in Downsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Mott was born at Shelbyville, Missouri on October 10, 1840. She came to Kanesville, now Council Bluffs, with her parents. Later they moved to Downsville, a community northeast of here.
She was married January 11, 1863 to Squire Ezra Mott of Council Bluffs, who died at Weston in 1888.
In 1903 because of failing health she moved to Stuart, Nebraska where she made her home with a son, Leonard Mott.
