THE OBITUARY OFJohn T. Mulqueen |
JOHN T. MULQUEEN, 59, 28 Bluff Street, died late Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Hospital of pneumonia, which followed an operation for strangulated hernia. Mr. Mulqueen was stricken on October 7, while in a store in this city and was hurried to the hospital for surgical attention.
He was a salesman for the Paxton & Gallagher Company, wholesale grocers of Omaha serving in that position for the last fifteen years. He was a past president of the Iowa Retail Grocers’ Association, as well as a member of the Council Bluffs Grocers’ and Butchers’ association, which he helped to organize thirty years ago and of which he was its first secretary. At a meeting of the organization Tuesday night, the members voted to attend funeral services in a body.
He was a charter member and past grand knight of the local council Knights of Columbus, in which he held the fourth degree; a charter member of the local lodge of Elks, and a member of the Royal Arcanum and Woodmen of the World.
He was born in Virginia City, Montana, but his parents soon removed to Council Bluffs. He attended the public schools here and was graduated from St. Benedicts College, Atchison, Kansas.
Mr. Mulqueen is survived by his widow, one son, John E. Mulqueen, two sisters, Mrs. S.T. McAtee and Miss Cecilia B. Mulqueen and one brother, James P. Mulqueen all of this city.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Francis Church with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Funeral services for John T. Mulqueen were held Friday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Francis Catholic Church, with requiem high mass celebrated by Msgr. McManus.
There was a large attendance, the funeral being one of the largest held in the city in recent months. Members of the Royal Arcanum, Knights of Columbus and the Retail Merchants Association attended in a body.
Pallbearers were Hubert L. Tinley, Nick O’Brien, C.R. Cornelius, Robert H. Huntington, George Klein, J.F. Fergus, George F. Hughes and Daniel Gieler. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
