Thomas Owen, Jr.

Thomas Owen, Jr., 75, route 4, member of one of western Iowa's oldest families, died Saturday night in a local hospital after six days illness. A lifelong resident of Pottawattamie County, Mr. Owen was the son of the late Tom Owen, Sr., who drove ox teams in freight and gold shipment service between Council Bluffs and Julesburg, Co, in pioneer days. The Owen homestead is now being farmed by the third generation. Mr. Owen had been a member and active worker in the Pottawattamie County Farm Bureau for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are four sons, William of Sioux City, Edward of Crescent, Fred and George Owen of Council Bluffs; four daughters, Mrs. Elsie Mason, Mrs. Helen Hough and Mrs. Ethel Larvie all of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Alice Thorpe of Sacramento, CA; 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery. (Section 8, Row 2, 1874-1949)
