THE OBITUARY OFGeorge T. Phelps |
George T. Phelps, an old resident of Council Bluffs and for twenty years identified with the local post office, died Sunday in a hospital in Milwaukee, WI, according to a telegram received from Mrs. Phelps. Mr. Phelps died of infirmities that had caused him to be an invalid for several years, during which time he was almost helpless.
Mr. Phelps was assistant postmaster here for fifteen years and during his other service in the department he was money order and postal clerk. He resigned from the post office because of failing health August 1, 1917. He was 77 years of age.
The body of Mr. Phelps will arrive in Council Bluffs Wednesday morning over the Northwestern.
Mr. Phelps was a veteran of the Civil War and members of the G.A.R. will have charge of the funeral services in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from Mr. Phelps' former associates at the post office. He is survived by the widow and one son, George Phelps, Jr.
