THE OBITUARY OFRoxana Rice |
Roxanna Rice, known as "Grandma" Rice, who was said to be the oldest member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union in the United States, died Monday morning at the Christian Home, where she has been an inmate since November 26, 1891.
The funeral services will be held at the home chapel this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. W.N. Graves of the Fifth Avenue Methodist Church will conduct the services and interment will take place at Walnut Hill.
Mrs. Rice was born in Killingby, Connecticut, October 14, 1810 and was married to Henry F. Willard in 1832. Seven years later her husband died. She married Dr. William Rice in 1848 and moved to Illinois. Her mind was bright and active up to a short time before her death. She died from the infirmities of old age.
