THE OBITUARY OFThomas R. Shea |
THOMAS R. SHEA, 59, Rock Island railroad engineer was found dead about 9 a.m. Sunday in his home at 709 South Sixth Street where he lived alone. Death was due to a heart attack, which he had suffered sometime late Saturday night. It was estimated that he had been dead about 10 hours before his body was discovered. He had been under treatment for heart disease.
J.H. McPartland, 604 fourth Street, and J.N. Sinnett, 214 Ninth avenue, appeared at the police station Sunday morning and told police that Shea was called for work but failed to report, when they went to his home, they saw him sitting in a chair but could not get him to answer the door. Police went to the Shea home, found Shea slouched down in a chair in the bedroom. A hospital intern brought to the scene pronounced him dead. He apparently returned home Saturday night, as he had removed his hat, coat, vest and tie and sat down in the chair. Medicine he had been taking for his ailment was nearby. Coroner L.H. Tyler, following his investigation, said that no inquest would be held.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Sellers of Roscoe, California; three sons, Lawrence of Los Angeles, California; Phillip and Norbert both in the armed services; a brother, Daniel J. Shea of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Mrs. R.O. Frost of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Walter Longeway of Venice, California.
The body will lie in state at his residence, 709 S. 6th St. Services Thursday, 10 a.m., St. Francis Church. Requiem mass will be celebrated by Rev. J.P. Danahey.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
