THE OBITUARY OF

Augusta Swanson

Augusta Swanson

Sunday witnessed the first funeral this year, the deceased being Augusta Swanson, wife of William Swanson. Though the weather was cold the funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends. Rev. Henry DeLong, from this city, conducted the funeral service, which was well appreciated by all hearers.

Mr. Swanson is an old settler of this county. He came to this county and located in Crescent City in 1856, and has been an enterprising farmer of this place ever since, excepting five years ago when he went west to California. There he chose among the fair ones his life companion, with the intention of making his home there. A dreaded disease soon began to affect his wife and he had to do something to restore her health. Physicians advised him to take his wife and go east, that the change of the climate would do her good. Mr. Swanson and wife arrived at Council Bluffs last April with hopes that she would recover her voice which had left her a month before leaving California, caused by bronchitis. Every effort possible was taken to restore her health, but no physician could give her relief, and she lingered until finally her lungs were affected, which soon proved to be consumption.

She died December 31, at 2 o'clock a.m., her age being 33 years, 6 months and 2 days. She was a member of the Lutheran church, and was happy when she took leave of this world. She was a true, loving wife, had many friends and gained friends where ever she went. The bereaved husband has the sympathy of this entire community.
