THE OBITUARY OFSamuel Thomas Walker |
Samuel Thomas Walker, 72, the well known ex-justice of the peace died last night of paralysis at his home. He had only been ill for about three weeks.
Mr. Walker was born at Hickory, PA, and lived there during his early years and later moving with his parents to Martinsburg, OH. He was educated at Martinsburg Academy and was admitted to the bar of that state. In the early part of the 60's he moved to Bellefontaine where he became editor of the Bellefontaine Republican.
In 1870 he came to Council Bluffs and shortly after purchased an interest in The Nonpareil. About this time he started into the book bindery business with Charles Honn in which business he continued a number of years. With J.W. Chaffin he next started a weekly paper called The Advance which they afterwards changed to the daily under the name of The Herald. He was elected justice of the peace in 1894, which office he held for two years. At the time of his death he was engaged in the business of a pension agent.
Mr. Walker was married to Anna E. Buckingham of Springfield, Ohio in 1860 and since her death in 1885, his sister, Miss Jane Walker, has had charge of his house. He leaves two children, Maud and Julia.

Samuel Thomas Walker--Funeral
Funeral services were conducted at the residence on South Fourth Street yesterday. The Rev. W.S. Barnes of the First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. L.P. McDonald, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
