THE OBITUARY OF

Louie Wegener

Another Co. L Boy Called
Louie Wegener Among Killed Before San Fernando

Governor Shaw several days ago wired Colonel Loper of the Fifty First Iowa to learn whether the Louie Wegener, reported among the killed in the Thirty Sixth Volunteers before San Fernando, had been a member of Company L, Fifty First Iowa. The reply states that he had.

Young Wegener, who was but 22 years of age, was a Des Moines boy, but was working in Council Bluffs when the war broke out and enlisted with Company L when it left this city for Des Moines. He had but few acquaintances in Council bluffs; his mother resides in Des Moines. He served with the Fifty First Iowa until Bell's regiment was formed, when he asked to be transferred to the new regiment and re-enlisted for continued service in the Philippines.
