THE OBITUARY OFPeter Weis |
Peter Weis, for the past sixty one years a resident of this city, died at Mercy Hospital at the age of 91. Funeral services will be at the family home at 120 East Broadway. Mr. Weis was born in Germany January 8, 1834, and came to this country at the age of 20 with his parents. They located at Marystown, Wisconsin, and in 1858 Mr. Weis came to Council Bluffs. Since that time he has lived here continually with the exception of two years when he crossed the plains to Denver with an ox team.
Upon his return from the west he associated himself with John Clausen in conducting a grocery and implement firm under the name of Weis and Clausen. Later he moved to a fruit farm on Madison Avenue known as Hillside Nursery and later purchased by John Mosbacker, from which place he retired. He has been a director of the State Savings Bank and was one of the founders of St. Peter's Church and was instrumental in bringing about the building of the new St. Peter's School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mrs. Weis died four years ago. He is survived by an adopted son, Peter J. Weis of Woodbine, nieces and nephews. Burial to be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
