Ensign Robert L. Welty


Rites Set for Ensign R.L. Welty

The body of Ensign Robert L. Welty, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Welty of Route 1, is being returned here for burial Friday. Ensign Welty was killed in action May 14, 1945, on a mission over Kyushu, Japan. He was a pilot stationed aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

A graduate of North High School, Welty attended Omaha University for one year and was attending the University of Nebraska at the time of his enlistment in November 1942. He went overseas in March 1944.

Survivors include: his widow, Nancy; a three year old daughter, Roberta Lee; a brother Arthur F.; and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mayer all of Omaha.

Private funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Swanson Funeral Home in Omaha followed by committal services at the grave in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. The family requests no flowers.
