Military Deaths, some bodies took 2 to 3 years to be shipped home |
The body of Ralph W. Davis will arrive at Hoboken, June 2, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, 2427 Avenue A. Ralph Davis was a private with Company L and died on July 21 in Base Hospital No. 13, following severe wounds sustained while standing post in a trench at the beginning of the bombardment of the Champagne.

Joint Funeral For 168th Bodies
A joint funeral service for the three former members of the 168th Infantry, whose bodies will arrive Friday morning will be held Sunday afternoon in Bayliss Park, or if weather demands, in the Armory, with former comrades in charge. The bodies are those of RALPH DAVIS, IVAN SWEENY AND GEORGE McSORLEY.
Alva Grover, a member of the Fifty Third Infantry and enlisted from Wisconson was killed at Chatteau Thierry. The funeral for Mr. Grover will be held from Cutler's Funeral Home with burial in Omaha.
Parents of Herman Nelson, member of Company L and killed overseas, have received notice that his body will arrive at New York Saturday.

Ivan Sweeney, who was a private in Company D and was gassed in the attack on the 168th Infantry, May 28, 1918 and died the next day at Evacuation Hospital No. 3 at Baccarat. A companion said of him "He was a man of true worth, patient in hardships and suffering. He would have made a mark for Company L in the days that follow." His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Grant Sweeney, 613 Damon Steet.
