CASH - June 9, 2008
Hello from Australia.
I am seeking information about my grandfather and his family.
His name was Walter Cash - He was born on 18th April, 1889 in Corydon, Wayne, Iowa, USA
His father's name was Albert Cash and he was born in Wayne, Iowa in about 1867 - 1869. I think he was also born in Corydon.
Albert married Nevada Allison (born about 1971-1872 in Clark, Iowa) in about 1887-1889. Their first child Walter was born in 1889. The family lived in Long Creek, Decatur in 1900 ( information from Census)
Walter late moved to Canada and then to Australia in about 1923.
I would be very interested in getting copies of any birth or marriage certificates of they exist.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Pam

LYONS, KIRKPATRICK, STREETS
My sister and I are working on our family tree and we have three names that were in the Iowa area between the eighteen and nineteen hundreds that need help. Those names are Lyons, Kirkpatrick, and Streets. I am sure there were many married names we don't know of that may have been in or around Iowa as well but we know that great great grandparents lived in Iowa along with their children etc. Would appreciate any help we can get. One outstanding need is information on Howard Lyons and he died between 1900 and 1910 and was between three and ten the way we figure. I have a picture of him and parents and sister Edna but only know he died young and never shows up on census records.

Rickles

I would love to gather more information on a story I have from some old newspaper clippings on my great Uncle Chester A. Rickles, 32, his wife Bessie Rickles, 31, and their friend Lou Woolever 65, who were all drowned in the Mississippi River on October 20, 1939. I have got several clippings from the Daily Hawk-Eye Gazette in Burlington on the search for them and where they had found the Mr. & Mrs Rickles but nothing on Mr. Woolever, whether he was found, and what the inquests showed as the cause and why it happened.
Chester was my mother's Uncle and I would love to have the complete story to add to her family line. Also could someone tell me where I could write to get a death certificate for him if possible as it has been 67 years ago? I believe the Henderson county Coroner was called so maybe go to there to look?
Any Help with this project would be so greatly appreciated. Please email me at the following email site or at my snail mail listed below.

GATES
June 1st, 2006

Shelley Cardiel wrote:

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Harlow Taylor GATES which was taken at the Morgan Studio in Harriman, Tennessee. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Harlow noted as just 9 months old at time it was taken. Based on limited research I believe that Harlow T. GATES was b. 8 Apr 1891 in TN and d. 19 Feb 1989 in La Jolla, CA.

Harlow was living in Missouri at the time his Social Security Card was issued. Records indicate that his Mother's maiden name was TAYLOR. In 1920 he was living in Des Moines, IA with census records providing the following information:

Harlow GATES, age 28, born TN, parents born USA, a Electrical Co. Manager

Pearl GATES, wife, age 28, born PA, parents born PA

Doris GATES, dau, age 9 months, born WV

I'm hoping to locate someone from this GATES Family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of his family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks,

Stitt

June 3rd, 2006

Hello Out There, I have located & proven the marriage date of my grandparents in Osceola, Iowa on Oct 12, 1899 via all the email help I received and the county of Clarke. Bessie Stitt was born in Corydon, Wayne County, Iowa in 1881. Her Father was listed as T.J. Stitt. Do any of you know of a Stitt family with those two names and the 1881 birth? There is another Bessie Stitt born in 1873 who may be an aunt or mother. Also there is a Bessie Rutter who married a Stitt in this time frame but they were married to each other long after my gr. parents left Iowa for an unknown Providence in Canada where two aunts were born, Clarrisa and Agnes about 1904 and 1905. Then they were off to Wyoming and Oregon where I was sent more information. Charles Phillippe Boies had been married prior to Bessie so she had two stepdaughters with them in Canada.
My notes are terribly mixed up do to my son saving things and myself too when he upgraded my computer. I unknowingly had two sets of documents and pictures and have been saving to one or the other. I haven't got them straightened out completely. Guess it is better then crashing! Thanks, Arlene

Strasser

June 3rd, 2006

I need help locating a Laura Strasser who married Emiel A. Dammy 15Dec1873 in Davenport IA. He came from Scotland in 1869. She was born in Indiana in 1855 before her parents Jacob A. and Philomena Sachs Strasser moved to Iowa later in 1855. The immigrant Strasser family, parents and 7 children, came from Wuerttemburg in 1846 settling finally in Evansville IN where the parents had a saloon, grocery and provisions store through the Civil War. Appolonia, Laura, Jenny, Jacob, Jr. and Francis were the survivors of 12 children and all but Laura are accounted for, the remainder being buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport. I have found Dammys in CT only. The name is rare.

Please contact me at: edobbs@webtv.net.

Thanks for your help.

Would anyone be able to identify either of the people in this photo. They are somehow related on my mother's side which would be the Portz and Wagners of Jackson County, Iowa. Please contact me at bvwanzek@msn.com. The picture was taken at M.J. Streuser studios in Bellevue, Iowa.
Thanks. Verna

May 21, 2007

I am seeking information on Slovak coal miners who worked in southeast Iowa in the 1880s.

The family I'm researching moved from Iowa (where a son was born in 1885) to Kangley, Illinois, and then into nearby Streator Illinois.

The men in the family continued coal mining until the 1910s or so and upon moving into town, moved into factory and brickyard work.

The Illinois state census of 1900 was helpful in pinning down the birth of the son in 1885 in Iowa, but the info in the record listed only the state, not the county or town in which he was born.

A helpful rep of the Iowa Historical Society pointed me to the southeast part of Iowa where, he said, there were coal mines worked there by Slovak (Hungarian) workers in that era. Could anyone assist on helping me pin down better the counties, towns, and records?

The names are George and Dora Horaney; son is George Jr.
George may have been written as the Slovak/Hungarian version, Juraj.

Thank you!
