The Funeral of Robert Longshore of Indianola

As before announced Mr. Robert Longshore, of Indianola, died on Friday last and was buried on Sunday. At the time of his death he was Master of the Masonic Lodge at Indianola. Quite a large delegation of the Masons of this city attended his funeral, and Mr. Sim D. Welling, Master of Pioneer Lodge, conducted the ceremonies. Delegations of Masons were also present from Palmyra, Hartford, Osceola, Sandyville, and Fort Plain. Had the day been less unpleasant the Masonic attendance would have been three times as large.

Mr. Longshore was 38 years old, and was made a Mason in Wooster, Ohio, some sixteen years ago. He removed to Indianola in 1853, and at once took position as a leading and honorable citizen. He was a good man and one who is missed. He leaves a wife and six children, the youngest but two weeks old. His disease was congestion of the lungs.

Rev. J. L. Turner

At New Virginia, Iowa, April 17, Rev. J. L. Turner, aged 58 years, a former resident of Henry.

Local Items - Rev. J. L. Turner, a former resident of Henry, died at New Virginia, Iowa last month. He was a preacher in the Protestant Methodist Connection and lived here between 6 and 8 years during the prosperity of the college. He owned a tract of land near the college, built a brick house and for some time run a boarding house for the students. He afterwards traded the property for Iowa land where he removed. While he lived here, D. G. Edmiston, a brother of Rev. B. Edmiston came here to school and while boarding with the Turner family became enamoured of the only daughter Anna, who accepted his hand, and who were married here in 1860. Mrs. Edmiston attended her father’s funeral and on her return stopped here a few days last week at her brother-in-law’s Rev. B. Edmison, calling upon Mrs. C. S. Woodward and other old church friends with whom she was formerly acquainted. Her present home is at Adriane, Michigan.
