![]() A picture of Lehigh's south main street, probably after 1900, like the 1920's? The railroad track ran down the middle of the north part of town then went behind the stores on the south end, as it continued on to the Sewer Pipe and Tile company, that my dad helped build and then worked there until he retired in about 1938 or 9. Then we had to move from the company house to the second house down on the right from the top of Spencer hill, that my folks rented for 10 dollars a month from the Post Master Rusty Whipple. ![]() A picture of the Lehigh school before they removed the big cover over the main entry, later it was just a flat front without that, until they tore the school down in '79 and put the Government senior housing in its place. Once on Halloween, some boys took a Sewer Pipe wagon apart and put it back together on the roof of the entry cover, maybe why it was removed. Once when I was a kid at night we used it as a dark place to 'kiss' the girls if we got a chance, and they were playing with us after dark. My great aunt Ina lived right behind the school, so the grounds were our play place much of the time when out of school. Submitted by Melvin B. Echelberger. melbech@charter.net |
![]() A list of W.W.II servicemen from the Lehigh area. It was taken before the new Des Monies River bridge was put in, and they had to remove the Band Stand. Submitted by Melvin B. Echelberger. melbech@charter.net |
![]() A list of more servicemen from the Lehigh area, but I think this one is after they made a new smaller one and moved it out to West Lawn Cemetery Submitted by Melvin B. Echelberger. melbech@charter.net |
