Alva Canfield

Dr. and Mrs. H. W. Canfield, who so recently left from here and moved to Ira, Iowa, have lost their little daughter, Alva. She took sick with Scarlet Fever and died about a week ago. She was born here in Rake in August 1905, and did not get two years old. The aged grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Canfield, feel the loss keenly as Alva was their only grandchild.

Christopher Dahlsing

An old pioneer was taken away from our midst last Thursday morning, in the person of Christopher Dahlsing. Having reached the advanced age of 81 years, 9 months and 28 days. The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Church of which congregation he was a member since its organization. The remains were laid to rest in the Liberty Cemetery northwest of town.

Christopher Dahlsing was born July 18, 1825, in Sparbo Prestegjeld, Tronhjem's Stift, Norway. When 22 years old he moved to Nordland, Norway. In 1866 he and his wife and daughter emigrated to America. They settled in Dakota Co., Minn., where they lived from 1866 until 1868 when they moved to Fairbault Co., Minn., and settled on the old homestead, on which they lived until 1903.

He was married to Andrea Nelson of Ofoten, Norway, Nov. 16th, 1851. To this marriage three children, of which two died in infancy, while one daughter, Mrs. C. A. Erdahl, survives him. He is also survived by his aged wife, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Andrew Engebrigtson

Mrs. Andrew Engebrigtson died last Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lasse Erdahl. The funeral services were held at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Sholden Church, Rev Sondreson conducting the service, the remains laid to rest in the cemetery near there by the side of her husband who was buried there 12 years ago. Her maiden name was Miss Gjertrude Myklebust, and was born Feb. 4, 1827, on the Gaarden Myklebust in Nordfjord, Norway. She had reached the advanced age of 80 years, 2 months and 10 days at the time of her death.

She was married to Mr. Anders Engebrigtson in 1857; they emigrated to America in 1869 and landed in Waseca, Minn., in June 2 of that same year. They soon settled the same year on to the old homestead where Andrew now lives. It was on this place that Mr. Engebrigtson died May 12, 1895. They were members of the Sholden Church ever since that congregation was organized.

She was the mother of a highly respected family of seven children, of whom five survive, two having died quite young. Those who survive are Mrs. Lasse Erdahl north of here; Mrs. Hans Anderson of Churches Ferry, N.D.; Mons Engebrigtson, north of here; Mrs. John Overland of Churches Ferry, N.D. and Andrew Engebrigtson, north of here.

Erdal girl

The little girl of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Erdal which was born last week did not live to be a week old. It died last Sunday. It is indeed a sad blow on the family as this makes the third child that they have lost in a similar manner. The funeral was held last Tuesday afternoon which was conducted by Rev. R. Malmin of Thompson. The remains were taken to the Trefoldighed Church six miles east of Rake where the other children of Mr. and Mrs. Erdal were buried.

Mrs. Andrew Graue

Of all the sad occurrences that ever happened in this neighborhood this is the saddest that we have been obliged to chronicle: the death of Mrs. Andrew Graue. She gave birth to a little daughter, Thursday July 25th, and was not unusually sick until Thursday morning, Aug. 1. That day she ate breakfast and seemed quite well, but not long after she began to feel unwell. When the doctor got there it was too late to do any good.

The funeral took place last Saturday afternoon about 2 o'clock at the Lincoln Church in the presence of an immense crowd; and she was laid to rest in the new Lincoln Cemetery east of town.

The deceased is survived by her husband, five children, her aged father, a sister and three brothers. Deceased was born in Wisconsin Oct 18, 1861. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Thompson, soon went to Goodhue Co., Minn. Later the family moved to Iowa. Her maiden name was Gunild Thompson and was married on Dec. 27, 1887, to Andrew Graue. They lived near Ledyard for some years and for the last 12 or 15 years have lived on their excellent farm north of Rake.

Hanson boy

A small child, about 2 1/2 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans P. Hanson north of here, was severely scalded with boiling water last Friday. The child was one of a pair of twins. Two doctors from Bricelyn were called who did the best they could for the little sufferer, but in vain. At 12 o'clock Saturday night its soul passed away never to return. The funeral was held Monday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Dell Cemetery.

Loyd Hauskins

Master Loyd, the 2 1/2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Hauskins, who was reported last week as being very sick died last Friday afternoon of Summer Complaint. The funeral took place Tuesday with Rev. P. B. Trelstad conducting the service. The remains were laid to rest in the Liberty Cemetery.

Hestethun boy

The little three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hestethun died the first of the week with some bowel trouble. The funeral takes place today at the Sholden Church and the remains will be laid to rest in the cemetery near that place.

Mrs. Ole Hondstad

Mrs. Ole Hondstad who has been sick more or less for some months passed away yesterday morning at their home a mile east of town. Weakness of the heart was the chief affliction of late. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon, April 26th, at the Hondstad home and about 2 o'clock in the Liberty Church. The remains will be laid to rest in the Liberty Cemetery.

The deceased was born Dec. 12, 1836, in Surendalen, Thronbjem, Norway. Her maiden name was Randy Guila and was married to Mr. Ole Hondstad in 1864 on the first of July. To this union were five children born, tho the oldest one died while very young. The husband and the remaining four children survive — Einer, Lars, Miss Gertie and Mrs. Ole Nelson. These children were all born in the old country. The family emigrated to this country in 1885. They settled down near Homedahl, Minn., as soon as they got here, and lived there about four years. In 1889 they moved on to the place which is now their home and is the place where Mrs. Hondstad passed away last week.

Ingvald Jorgenson

The smallest boy, Ingvald, of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jorgenson died last Sunday morning after an illness with scarlet fever of only about four day. The funeral was held at the Lincoln Cemetery last Tuesday afternoon. The cemetery was dedicated also previous to the burial.

Amanda Jorgenson

The scarlet fever is certainly raising havoc at the Hans Jorgenson home. Monfamily. Amanda was born here and grew up on the place where she died at an age of 11 years, one month and 24 days. The burial took place last Tuesday afternoon on the new cemetery east of town.

Mrs. Kahl

Mrs. G. F. Granzow was called to Radcliff, Ia., last Saturday over the long distance telephone to her mother's funeral, Mrs. Kahl, who died at her home on Friday night.

Alta E. Oehler

Funeral services for Alta E. Oehler, 22, who died of complications after an appendectomy Wednesday night, were conducted at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at Salem Evangelical church at Dorchester, preceded by brief rites at the home.

The Rev. J. M. LeCount officiated and burial took place in Memorial cemetery, Dorchester. Those in charge of the floral tributes were Helen Umlauf, Edna Underwood, Jean Rau, Cecelia Helfert, Violet Reynolds and June Jacobs.

Miss Oehler was born on March 6, 1915, at Thompson, Iowa, and moved here with her parents in the fall of 1919. Her marriage was to have taken place in June.

Surviving Miss Oehler are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Oehler, five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Miller, Mrs. Nellie Tischendorf, and Mrs. Ruby Baker, Dorchester; Cecile, Park Falls; and Mrs. Cecelia Jacobson, Forest City, Iowa; and four brothers, Irving, Caldwell, Idaho; Dewey, Stetsonville; Ray, Eland; and Orville, at home. One sister, Olive Tuttle, preceded her in death in 1930.

Anton Penning

Anton Penning who took the train here several weeks ago and went to Rochester to be operated on at the hospital there, died from the effects of the operation. Although his ailment was such that it meant death anyway, so that an operation was the only possible chance of recovery. But, however, the ordeal of the operation was too much for his strength. He died last week Tuesday morning at the hospital at Rochester.

The funeral took place last Friday at Buffalo Center and was buried there in the Graceland Cemetery. The Register extends sincere sympathies to the bereaved ones.

Infant Schrader

The little infant son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Schrader has been very sick since last Friday with stomach and bowel complaint. Since Saturday night no hopes have been entertained for his recovery. He held out until this morning at about 2:30 o'clock when he died. The little infant was only a month old. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon in the Liberty Church.
