Wright County,Iowa Lucy Brande Aged Belmond Woman Buried Belmond, Nov. 30. Mrs. Lucy Brande, 80, who died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. W. Luick, was buried Friday afternoon in the Belmond cemetery. Lucy E. Osgood was born March 5, 1850, at Schoolcraft, Kalamazoo county, Michigan. She was married to Henry Glidden on Nov. 4, 1868. To this union were born six children: five sons and one daughter, Cyrus J. and Frank of Alba, Mich., Allen of Miami, Fla., Charles of Henry, S. Dak., and Grace, now Mrs. E. W. Luick of Belmond. One son died in infancy. Mr. Glidden died in 1888. Mrs. Glidden was married again in 1895 to J. D. Brande and lived at Alden most of the time until his death in 1909. Mrs. Brande had made her home for the past twenty years with her daughter in Belmond. The Rev. S. U. Leinbach, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Mahaffy of the Congregational church conducted the funeral service at the home and at the grave. Robert Crabtree, farmer, was killed by a Great Western passenger train three miles northeast of here. He was driving in a top buggy and did not see the train when he attempted to go over a grade crossing. (Source: Kellogg Enterprise, January 21, 1916) George Daniel (By-Daddy) Echelberger LEHIGH, Nov. 9 Relatives here have received word of the sudden death of George Daniel (By-Daddy)Echelberger, 75 of Dows,IA. who died at his home following a heart attack. Mr. Echelberger was the son of the late George Echelberger Sr., and Mrs. Julia (Ross)Echelberger, having been born on a farm east of Lehigh where he grew up and married Miss Minnie Widick, also of this vicinity. They were the parents of several children and were former residents having left Lehigh 26 years ago to make their home in Dows where Mr. Echelberger followed the carpenter trade. (same as his Dad) He was well know around Lehigh and the surrounding area where he owned and raised mules and horses, (showing them) during summers at fairs and celebrations. He was preceded in death by a daughter Cecile, age 7 years and his wife Minnie, who died about 7 years ago. Funeral services will be held in Dows Thursday, a number of relatives from here plan to attend. Mr Echelberger is and uncle of Ermal Kostoff, and Ina Williams is his aunt. He is also survived by a number of grand children and two great grand children. [Lehigh Valley "Argus" Nov. 9,1949 - Submitted by Melvin Echelberger] Daisy (Bristor) [Severe] Gessner The funeral service for Mrs. Daisy Gessner, 88, who died Monday evening at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Welter Funeral Home. Loftus H. Ward will officiate; burial will be in the Doland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening. Daisy Bristor was born June 1, 1878, at Ottawa, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bristor. As a girl she came to Odell, Neb., with her parents crossing both the Mississippi and Missouri rivers in a covered wagon on a ferry. She resided there until she was 12 when she moved to Clarion, Iowa. She married C. Monroe Severe in June, 1896. To this union were born three children. In 1920 the family moved to Doland and farmed. Her husband died in 1927. She married Robert Gessner in 1930 and she moved to Huron in 1932 where she had lived since. Survivors include one son, Cassius Severe, Bagley, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dahl, Mill Valley, Calif. And Madeline Severe, Philadelphia; 18 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Otto Herrick, Fargo. L. H. Preul officiating, interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Meyers is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs. Bina Cramer, one son Richard Meyers, one step son James Meyers, all of Clarion, 5 brothers, Ken Cramer, D. M. Cramer, both of Chicago, Frank Cramer, Oakland, Cal., Wendell Cramer, Clarion, and Sgt. Dale Cramer, in the army of occupation in Germany, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Leta Harris, Kankakee, Ill., and Mrs. Will Berryman, Wright City, Mo. [1948 - Submitted by a Friend of Free Genealogy] Charles Motts Cedar Rapids, Dec. 21. - At Dows Thursday night Charles Motts, a young man 21 years old, committed suicide by throwing himself under a passenger train. Disappointment in love was the cause. Sioux City Journal (22 Dec. 1895) transcribed by FoFG MZ Albert Calvin Nickell LINEVILLE MAN DIES IN EAGLE GROVE Albert Nickell, 84, died Oct. 1, 1959 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Keeton of Eagle Grove after an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Nickell was a well known farmer for many years in the Lineville, Iowa vicinity, having lived east of Lineville until his farm home burned in 1955. Since that time he has made his home with his children. Funeral services were held Oct. 3rd at the Methodist church in Lineville. Burial was in the Gatliff cemetery west of Lineville. [Unknown newspaper clipping, submitted by A Friend of Free Genealogy] Iva E. Smith Clarion - Iva E. Smith, 100, of the Clarion Care Center, died Sunday. Survivors include sons, Earl, West Bend; Dale, Eagle Grove; John, Bloomington, IL; and Donald, Goldsboro, NC; daughters, June Moss, Goldfield and Bernice Rawson, Portland, OR; 20 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren; a half sister, Leona McCaulley, Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah Carmichael Jones; her husband, Ralph; sons, Gerald, Ralph Jr., Lloyd, Richard and Kenneth; infant daughter, Bernice; a granddaughter and a great grandchild. Iva E. Jones was born Aug. 23 1891 in Rockwell City. She attended country school near Rockwell City. In 1909 she married Ralph Smith of Jolley, at Rockwell City. They farmed near Rockwell City until 1919 when they moved to Eagle Grove. Her husband died in 1963. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eagle Grove. (Ft. Dodge Messenger, May 11, 1992) Minnie M. Widick Minnie Maybel Widick daughter of J. J. and Josephine Widick was born in Homer, Ia. Hamilton county Jan 24, 1874. She grew to womanhood and at the age of 19 was married to George D. Echelberger on June 3, 1893, at Homer, Ia. From there they moved to Webster Co. where they lived until 1909. They then moved to Wright Co. where they farmed until 1924. They then moved to Dows. They lived there until the time of her death. To this union seven children. One daughter (Cecile) preceded her in death. Those left to mourn her loss are her husband George, 2 daughters, Mrs Mark (Faye) King of Dows, Mrs Charles (Leola) Lampson of Pomona, Ca. and 4 sons, Rasseyen "Ross" of Clear Lake, Ia., Adrian and Joe of Dows, Merle "Bud" Echelberger in the Navy at Farragut, Id.; also 11 grand children two of whom are serving our country overseas. She leaves many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at 2 pm Saturday Dec 9.; interment at Fairview cemetary Dows. Wilson of Eagle Grove committed suicide yesterday morning by shooting himself through the head with a 38 caliber revolver. His wife-was getting breakfast when she heard the report of a gun from his bedroom, and, upon entering, found him lying upon the bed dead, the ball having entered the forehead and passed through the head.
