BACKUS, CHARLES BADER, JESSE MOREN Rushville Times, Rushville, Schuyler
County, Illinois, August 1963 Jesse M. Bader, 77, Dies In New
York on Aug. 19 Word was received here this week
thru a news bulletin of the World Convention of Churches of Christ in New York that Jesse M. Bader, native of Schuyler
and resident of community of Bader, died on August 19 in New York city at age of 77. Funeral services were held
at the First Christian church in Atchison, Kans., on August 23. He is survived by his wife, who will continue
to live in New York. Mr. Bader was general secretary of the world convention, which he founded and served as first
president in 1930. Bio BALLENTINE, R. H. Atchison Globe, October 14, 1882 R. H. Ballentine, a member of the
firm of A. B. Symns and Co., and teller of the Atchison National bank, died at 6 o'clock this morning, of Bright's
disease, in the thirty second year of his age, after an illness of almost a year. His mother and sister arrived
from Nebraska this morning and his brothers will arrive tonight. His remains will be buried in the Catholic cemetery
tomorrow afternoon. He arrived in Atchison in 1874, and has resided here since, making a friend of everyone with
whom he had contact. The GLOBE extends it sympathy to his sorrowing wife and relatives. BARNES, JAMES T. Atchison Globe, April 25, 1879 Died - Of scarlet fever, James
T. Barnes, youngest son of Wm. C. and M. E. Barnes, ages 8 years, 5 months and 13 days. Funeral from the residence
of the parents on Kansas Avenue, a 2 o clock p.m., Saturday. BARRETT, MARY Atchison Globe, January 19, 1889 Mrs. Mary Barrett, wife of the
janitor of West Atchison school, and daughter of Mrs. Mary Harrison, of 1017 Atchison street, died Friday noon,
Jan. 18, of general inward disability and neuralgia of the heart. Funeral starts from West Atchison school at one
p.m. tomorrow. Will be buried from St. Benedict's church at two. Friends of the family are invited to attend. BERTENSHAW, ANNA Atchison Globe, February 16, 1882 Last night Mrs. Anna Bertenshaw
died very suddenly at 937 Atchison street. Mrs. B. was 61 years old and the large, healthy woman having three married
sons. Her husband is a moulder at Seaton and Lea's foundry, and 3 years of age. She retired at the ususal hour
and shortly afterward called her husband, say that she felt something was choking her. Mr. Bertenshaw, who was
the only other occupant of the house, assisted her to a sofa and went to the door to summon a neighbor, and when
he returned he found that his wife was dead from hemorrhage of the lungs. The deceased stated but a short time
ago that it was her desire to die before her husband, and suddenly. One of her sons, Chas. Bertenshaw, is storekeeper
at the Central Branch. The family have resided in Atchison 11 years. The funeral will take place Sunday from her
late residence, and the remains taken to Mt. Vernon cemetery. BERTENSHAW, JOHN Atchison Globe, July 24, 1885 John Bertenshaw, a member of the
Jeffersonian club, died on Wednesday, and was buried today, the remains being accompanied to the grave by members
of the club. BIRD, PARKER Died on Saturday, May 20th, Parker,
youngest son of John C. and Kate S. Bird, aged 18 months. The friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral
from the residence of Mrs. L. D. Bird at 9 o'clock today. (The Atchison Daily Champion, Sunday, May 21, 1865, transcribed
by Jim Laird) BOWEN, WILLIAM Atchison Globe, May 7, 1888 Wm. Bowen, aged 89 years, father
of John Bowen, died at his son's residence on South Seventh street, at noon yesterday of old age. The funeral will
take place from the Catholic church at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. BRACKE, THEODORE The Globe, August 19, 1878 Died - August 15th, Theodore, son
of A. and M. A. Bracke, aged 14 months. Funeral took place this afternoon at three o'clock. BRADSHAW, JOHN Atchison Globe, April 4, 1879 A laborer named John Bradshaw fell
dead in the East Atchison yards this morning, while Engaged in unloading a car of lumber. The cause is supposed
to be heart disease. He had a serious attack last night, but recovered sufficiently to work this morning until
noon, when death took place as stated. He was 37 years old and leaves a family. BRADY, JOHN J. Died at the residence of J. W.
Best, in Center Township, on Sunday morning, May 21st, John J. Brady, aged 83 years. (The Atchison Daily Champion,
Tuesday, May 23, 1865, transcribed by Jim Laird) BROWN, ALEX MRS. Atchison Globe, December 16, 1880 The funeral of Mrs. Alex Brown
has been postponed until tomorrow morning at 10 o clock, from the Trinity church. BUTCHER, JANE Atchison Globe, August 3, 1881 Mrs. Jane Butcher, wife of Thomas
Butcher, died this morning at 2:30. Funeral from the family residence on South Sixth street tomorrow afternoon
at 2 o clock. BYMES, CHARLES Atchison Globe, July 30, 1888 Chas. Byrnes, late market master,
died at his residence at 601 Fifth street at 10:50 this morning. The funeral will be announced tomorrow in the
morning paper.

Died of Blood Poisoning
Atchison Man's Fatal Experience Caring for His Sister
Atchison, Kan. March 6, - Charles Backus died of blood poisoning yesterday having become inoculated through a scratch
on one of his hands, while taking care of his sister, Ruth Alice Backus, who died of blood poisoning two weeks
ago.
Mr. Backus had traded his excelsion ____tory in Atchison for 1,400 acres of land in Texas two years ago. The land
is in the region where oil was recently struck, by reason of which discovery is believed to be very valuable. Backus
unmarried and had bequeathed his property to Ruth Backus; before her death willed her property to their sister,
Mrs. R. Hurd of Atchison.
The Backus family is among the head of an estate in England, valued at three millions. The estate was left by an
uncle of the Backus children in Atchison and a lawyer is now in England looking unto the estate. (Kansas Semi-Weekly
