KAFFER, ALBERT J. Atchison Globe, July 30, 1881 At Elden, Iowa, July 29th, Albert
J. Kaffer, nephew of John Kaffer, aged 19 years. Funeral from corner of Fourth and Division streets tomorrow afternoon
at four o clock. KEHLER, WALTER Atchison Globe, July 14, 1881 Died - At their residence on West
Main street, little Walter, only son of Winfield and Sophia Kehler, aged 2 years, 2 months and 11 days, after an
illness of only eight days. He passed away at half past one this morning. Funeral from their residence Friday morning,
at 10 o clock. KEITH, WINNIE Atchison Globe, July 18, 1881 Winnie Keith was buried yesterday
afternoon at 6 o clock in Mt. Vernon cemetery. KEPNER, MARY ISABEL SWITZER "Mrs. S. A. Kepner, who died
on the 31st ultimo, was born in Virginia, September 21, 1857. She was married in Illinois to Mr. Kepner, July 13,
1882. In 1893 they moved to Kansas and bought the beautiful home just east of the city where they lived until the
day of Mrs. Kepner's death. But now the home is sad, for wife and mother is gone! Husband and children are left
to mourn! Mrs. Kepner was a noble woman, an obliging neighbor, a dutiful and an affectionate wife, a kind and loving
mother and a faithful and devout Christian. Her funeral was conducted by Elder Z. S. Hastings, of the Christian
Church, preaching a discourse based upon the text: "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."
1 Cor. 15:@6. The concourse of people in attendance was large, for Mrs. Kepner had many friends. Mr. Kepner and
his children have the sympathy of all in this their sad bereavement and great loss. (May 31, 1899, submitted by Jan
Dishon) KIPER, EDNA Atchison Globe, December 13, 1887 The funeral of little Edna Kiper
occurred this afternoon and was largely attended. KLEIN, EDWARD N. Atchison Globe, June 18, 1887 Edward N. Klein, the soap maker
of West Atchison, died at six o'clock last evening of dysentery. The funeral took place this morning from St Benedicts.
He leaves a widow and seven children. KNIGHT, VERONICA S. ANDRIS Mrs. Vernie Knight Dies Unexpectedly Mrs. Vernie Knight, 74, 107 South
Fourteenth, died in her sleep yesterday morning at her home. She had been ill several months, but apparently was
much improved. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with the Reverend Valerian
Berger, officiating. The rosary will be tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the Harouff-Buis Chapel. Burial will be
at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Knight was born July 22, 1886,
at Fulton, Missouri. She was the former Vernie Andris. She and Joseph Allen Knight were married March 7, 1908,
at Fulton. They moved to Atchison from Leavenworth in 1944. Mr. Knight died a year ago yesterday. Mrs. Knight
worked as housekeeper for Father Valerian at the Sacred Heart rectory until she became ill. Mr. Knight worked
at the Wilson Packing Company here until he retired. She was a member of the church
altar society and the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Knight leaves three children,
James Edward Knight [This is incorrect. Vernie and Allie’s son’s name is actually Joseph] of Leavenworth, Mrs.
Robert (Adeline) Doub of Auburn, California, and Mrs. Earl (Mona) Ballard of Killeen, Texas; eight grandchildren;
and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister. Friends may call at the funeral home any time after

by Lowell Ben Krahn) KRATCHMER, TERESA Atchison Globe, June 28, 1887 Teresa Kratchmer died at 924 Division
street today, of dropsy. The funeral will occur from the Catholic church at 2 p.m. tomorrow. KUHL, GEO. M. Died in Perry, Pike County, Ill.,
on the 17th ult., of consumption, Geo. M. Kuhl, formerly of this city. (The Atchison Daily Champion, Thursday,
May 11, 1865, transcribed by Jim Laird) KUHN, JULIUS MRS. Atchison Globe, February 25, 1881 The remains of Mrs. Julius Kuhn
were laid to rest in Mt. Vernon cemetery this afternoon, in the presence of a large concourse of friends from Atchison,
Leavenworth and St. Joseph.
