LANGAN, HELEN ROZELLA

Langan Rites on Friday

Mrs. Helen Rozella Langan, 67, wife of Barney Langan, well known farmer north of Atchison, died last night at the Atchison Hospital following a heart attack. She was taken to the hospital about 6 o'clock yesterday evening.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Harbuff-Buls funeral home with Rev. C. P. Dukelow officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Mrs. Langan was born Feb. 14, 1887 in Atchison, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Anderson and lived here all her life.

For several years she was secretary and treasurer for the East Kansas Land and Loan Co. of Atchison. She had a brilliant mind and was always a very efficient worker.

She and Barney Langan were united in marriage Oct. 9, 1913 and began housekeeping on the Langan farm north of Atchison which had been their home since.

Mrs. langan was an active member of the Independence Home Demonstration unit and in early years took an active part in 4-H and PTA work. In all her associations, she made many friends.

Surviving are her husband of the home, three sons, Barney, W. E. Ervin and William, all of Atchison and three grandchildren, Kathy, Ervin and Bernard Langan.

She also is survived by a sister Mrs. Isabelle Hayme of Atchison, a niece, Mrs. Sam Munson, Atchison and two nieces, Mrs. Helen Boiling and Mrs. Marlo Imes, Hollywood, Calif., and a nephew John M. Burbank, San Francisco.

Her parents and two sisters Mrs. Lucille Stewart of Lajolla, Calif., and Mrs. Millie Burbank of Atchison, preceded her in death. (The Atchison Daily Globe, Thursday, July 1, 1954)

LAPERE, JOHN W.

Atchison Globe, April 21, 1888

John W. Lapere, who has been prominent in Atchison a good many years as a hotel man, and as a dignified and accommodating gentleman, died this morning at 5 o'clock. The funeral will take place 2:30 tomorrow afternoon, from the residence of his daughter on Parallel street, between Fourth and Fifth. Colonel Lapere has been failing for a year, having been a great sufferer of later from the winter cholera. He was nearly seventy years old.

LANIER, CORA

Atchison Globe, May 15, 1888

Miss Cora Lanier, who lived with her parents on Sixth street, between U and V, died of consumption last night after a protracted illness.

LANPHEAR, HERBERT A.

Atchison Globe, June 24, 1879

Died - At ten o clock a.m. today, after a lingering illness of four months, Herbert A. Lanphear, aged 25 years and one month. Funeral services from the residence of Sidney Lanphear, corner of Fourth and Parallel street, at 10 o clock a. m. tomorrow. The deceased has been employed at Humboldt, Kansas, as agent of L. L. & G. R. R Co. during the last four years.

LAMPHEAR, SIDNEY

Atchison Globe, December 11, 1880

The funeral services of Sidney Lanphear, who died this Saturday morning, will be held at the Congregational church tomorrow, Sunday, at 3:30 p.m. The remains will be interred in Springfield, Illinois.

LARAMORE, WILL

Atchison Globe, July 16, 1885

Mr. Will Laramore, of A. B. Symns & Co., and wife and child, a little daughter, started for Lincoln yesterday. Arriving at Falls City the child was seized with spasms, and was taken from the train. It lived but a few hours. Wednesday it was buried in a Falls City cemetery and the procession of friends was remarkable for its length.

LEU, MINNIE

Atchison Globe, August 9, 1882

Died - at 2 p.m. today, Minnie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Leu, aged 7 years and 11 month. Funeral at 4 p.m. tomorrow.

LEWIS, FREDERICK

Atchison Globe, March 15, 1880

Died - Frederick Lewis, Sunday, the 14th of March, of pneumonia. The funeral took place today.

LIGHTFOOT, MARY VIRGINIA

Died on Wednesday, Dec. 13th at 3 o'clock p.m., Miss Mary Virginia, daughter of F. O. and Sarah Jane Lightfoot, aged 22 months and 11 days. Funeral at the residence of the parents. LINCOLN, L. B.

Atchison Globe, May 7, 1888

Mrs. L. B. Lincoln, wife of Geo. R. Lincoln, of 1017 South Fourth street, died at the residence of H. J. Ward, near Farmington, on Sunday evening, after an illness of nearly two year. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church in Pardee at 2 o'clock Tuesday the 8th.

LUGTON, GEORGE R.

Atchison Globe, October 10, 1882

Dave Lugton, of the Lindell, received the sad intelligence last night that his grandfather, Geo. R. Lugton, died at Cincinnati last Sunday. Mr. L. was eighty two years of age.

LLOYD, LLEWELLYN

Atchison Globe, June 16, 1880

Died - At 1 a.m., June 16, Llewellyn, infant son of W. R. and Isabella Lloyd, aged 1 year, 9 months and 16 days. Funeral from the residence on North Seventh street, at 10 a.m., June 17.

LUKENS, DAVID

David Lukens, the last of the pioneer millers, died here of heart failure Tuesday. He was 75 years old and came to Atchison in 1857 when he established a sawmill. He went into the flour milling business in 1878 and followed it until 1897 when he retired turning his business over to his three sons. (Wichita Searchlight, May 23, 1908, page 4)
