8. Eighty-fourth anniversary of the Battle of New Orlenas. Annual change of county officers. F. S. Allen and W. G. Turner succeeded themselves as register of deeds and sheriff, respectively. H. A. J. Coppins succeeded S. G. Poltle as county clerk; Lee Scott succeeded Jos Barnes as county commissioner from the first district; Dr. Harvey A. Hill succeeded Dr. E. E. Dillenbeck as coroner. Mrs. Fannie Hayes was adjudged insane. Died, at Minneville, Oregon, A. H. Fuller.

19. The body of Alva Dix who was killed in the Phillipines, March 28, 1899, arrived at Augusta, his home. Died Mrs. Rhoda Yowell. Born to John Marshall and wife of Keighley, a girl.
20. Born to George Guinn and wife a son. Married, Miss Deborah McCafree to J. S. Edwards; Miss Lulu Parker to Dr. S. S. Gross.
21. Married, Minnie Cox to Arthur Huyett. Doctor Lewellyn was adjudged insane. Born to Chas Wagner and wife of Leon, a girl.
22. Married Miss Glennie Secrest to Clarence Morgan. Born, to D. W. Thornton and wife, a girl. Board of education accepts plans for new school building.
23. Knights and Ladies of Security presented a local talent, spectacular entertainment at Ellets Opera House.

12. Died, B. W. Eakin. The body of Chas. Brittenstein arrived today. Born to Frank Cohs and wife a girl.
14. Married, Miss Nettie Jackson to Lulvan Hall.
18. Chas Brittenstein’s funeral occurred today.

15. Alonzo Bidwell, an inventor, formerly of El Dorado; fell from a scaffold at Carthage, Mo., and was killed.
17. Died, J. H. Cole, at Perry, Okla., John C. Myer. Born to Clarence Clover and wife a girl.
18. Married, Miss Nancy Berickman to David Moss of Augusta.
19. Married, Miss Mabel Morrison to Orin Ashton of Oklahoma. Born to J. C. Boellner and wife a girl. Died Mrs. Geo East of Leon.
20. James Hamilton sentenced to 20 years in the penitentiary for killing Geo J. Webb. Died, Mrs. A. C. Lietzke, married, Miss Nora Knab to Chas. Yoakem.
21. El Dorado defeated Eureka at baseball.
22. Jessie Morrison cut Mrs. Olin Castle’s throat with a razor. Died, A.M. Black. Born to Andrew Clayton and wife, a son.
23. Married Miss Ruth Crook to S. W. Norris.
24. Died, Miss Laura Mayhew.
26. El Dorado defeated Wichita at baseball.
27. Married Miss Allie McIntyre to E. G. Louthan.
29. Eureka baseball defeated El Dorado. Married Miss Laura Helser to P. S. Ray of Yates Centre.
JULY
1. Born to Chas Girod and wife, Fairview, a son. Jap Salisbury was at Oklahoma City.
4. Fourth of July celebration at Potwin. Married, Maggie Caroll to Albert Peffley, Belle Cronk to Samuel Griffith.
5. Born to Louis Hinnen and wife, DeGraff, a girl.
7. Bruce Soward, of Leon, killed Eva Brooks and then himself at Cripple Creek, Colorado.
9. Born to Sam Sharp and wife a girl; to S. T. Snowden and wife, a girl.
10. Died, Clara Wiley Castle, Jessie Morrison was arrested, charged with murdering her. El Dorado defeated Marion at baseball. Died, Edward Shaffer.
11. Mrs. Olin Castle was buried. Mrs. C. C. Turner dropped dead at Jacksonville, Illinois. Married, Mamie Cochran to J. L. Skelton; Bernice Blankenbaker to Willie Butts, Pansy Price to C. S. Learned at Oklahoma City.
12. Married, Mrs. M. A. Meeks to M. S. Fetrow.
13. Died, George T. Hollinshead, Cloys Bruce of Augusta fell from a horse and was instantly killed.
14. Born to John Stewart and wife, a son. El Dorado baseball team defeated Benton.
16. Born, H. P. Morgan, wife, a boy.
17. Preliminary of Jessie Morrison began. Populist county convention held at El Dorado.
18. Corner stone of new Central school building was laid.
20. Jessie Morrison bound over to district court to answer to the charge of murdering Mrs Olin Castle. Died, Mrs. J. Hinkle of Towanda.
23. Born, to W. P. Ellet and wife, a girl.
24. Republican county convention held in El Dorado.
25. Married Miss Minnie Peth to Carl Birr, Miss Queen Bailey to Fred S. Cook. Died, John Gainer.

3. Died at Douglass, Jesse Essex, aged 49 years.
5. Married, E. C. Stansberry and Mary Brown of Rosalia. Corporal Alvin Bales and Miss Vina Kelley, married in Colorado Springs.
6. Election day, Butler County goes republican by an average of 350.
7. Married, Miss Mabel Swisher to Mr. Bart McCullough of Leon.
8. Died at Towanda, Clarence Boyke aged 17.
9. Died, B. F. Russell, a pioneer of southeast Butler. Married in Battle Creek, Michigan, Geo Peet and Miss Julia Fisher of El Dorado.
11. W. D. Cannon, a western Butler County pioneer, died.
14. Married at Winfield, Whitney McNeeley and Miss Mabel Bunch.
15. Attempted jail delivery.
19. Explosion of the boiler of the Clipper Mills, Chas Dye, Grant Rodgers and A. N. Crowther very severely injured. Walter J. LaRue and Miss Grace Kenoyer, married at Enid, Oklahoma.
20. L. P. Mathews and Miss Cora Bigler, married.
21. Died in Glencoe, Daniel S. Van Huss, a pioneer, aged 52 years.
22. J. A. Nelson, 66 years of age, died.
23. Public presentation of medals to 20th Kansas men, Leman Cowles, Denver Bales and Harvey Larkin.
26. Miss Marguerite Shore married to Otis E. Kunkle of Leon. John Shafer, 25 years old died in Hickory township.
28. Completion of 200 foot tunnel in water-works well, abundant and pure water found. J. A. Mannion, and Miss Ethel Williams, married.
29. El Dorado High School football team wins from Wichita.
30. Large illustrated edition of Times containing portraits of principals in the Castle-Morrison tragedy. John Harter killed by Santa Fe train at Douglass.
DECEMBER
1. Died, John Black, aged 66 years.
8. Oscar Williams died of consumption.
5. Nellie Angleton, infant daughter of Wm. Angleton of Benton, died. Sycamore, Chelsea, Towanda and Benton townships declare they will vote aid to the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient railway.
6. Ellis A. Varner and Nellie A. McNary married.
9. Died, G. H. Roach of Whitewater.
10. New Methodist church begun at Chelsea. S. S. McFarlane, a pioneer died. Joshua Edwards, son of Mrs. Dellilah Waer, died.
11. Born to Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Rodgers a girl.
12. Married, at Benton, Dr. W. O. Bennett and Miss Ella Hinkle. New officers elect of the Butler County fair, W. F. Benson, president, W. W. Bugbee, vice-president, Seth Frazier, treasurer, H. M. Balch, secretary.
14. A plate glass in front of the Times building broken by a rock, believed to be resentment by a friend of Jessie Morrison who is charged with the murder of Clara Castle. Judge J. F. Glendenning buys property in El Dorado.
15. Hon J. W. Robison returned from the Worlds Exposition, France.
16. Died, near Douglass, Jane, wife of G. D. Prindle.
17. M. D. Seymour, a pioneer of the county, died.
18. Born, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Storer of Clifford.
19. Married, LeRoy Lovelady and Miss Mabel E. Tuttle of Douglass. El Dorado Telephone Company is putting in a new switchboard and otherwise improving its service.
21. A. J. Lightfoot, old soldier and Butler county pioneer of Little Walnut, died. Bert G. Lewis and Miss Mary Counter, married.
23. J. A. Surplus and Miss Elsie R. Hall of Rosalia, married.
24. Pearl Beardsley and Clara DeShurley, married. Jessie Morrison, charged with the murder of Clara Castle, admitted to bail in $5,000. Married at Benton, Glen Diemart and Miss Flossie Langon.
25. A black Christmas, bright, warm day. Wm E Vanmatre, Blackwell, Oklahoma and Miss Alice Hickman of Latham, married. Wm. Halfhill and Mrs. Georgiana Jordan of Net Pulaski, Ill.; W. S. Lamb and Mary E. Burton; Frank C. Studebaker of Guthrie, Oklahoma to Miss Marion Allebach. J. A. Wilson’s handsome county home in western Butler, burned. Died, Mrs. Mary Keyes-Hublitz. Married at Leon, Elliott M. Hammer and Mary Gordon.
26. Chas Davis of Augusta and Miss Pearl Bollinger, married. Largest attendance most dressy and most enjoyable Holiday ball for years at Ellet’s opera house – 65 Couples. Supt. W. M. Sinclair chosen president of State Teachers Association.
27. Joint installation of Blue Lodge Masons and Knights Templar.
31. Century service held in the Methodist church by the Epworth League Sunday school and pastor until midnight.
