BORGER, ANNA LOUISE

Borger, Anna Louise, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002. Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, Carlson Funeral Home; interment following at Blankenship Cemetery, Rosalia.

Miss Borger was born Nov. 17, 1910 in rural Greenwood County, Kan. the daughter of Alvin Henry and Ann Belle Olsen Borger. She came to El Dorado in 1917 and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1928.

She began her library career 73 years ago in 1928 at El Dorado's Carnegie Library. She graduated from El Dorado Junior College in 1930. She received her B.A. in Library Science from the University of Denver in 1946. She became the head librarian at the Bradford Memorial Library in 1942 and worked until her retirement in Jan. 1976.

Her "retirement" was very short because the Butler County Historical Society hired her in March 1976 to start a research library at the museum. The library grew significantly under her careful and loving care to over 4,500 volumes. The library has always been under the sole direction of Miss Borger, who at 91, still worked every day.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors: sister and brother-in-law, Lucile and Quinten Anderson of Chanute. Memorial established with Butler County Historical Society Library, Bradford Memorial Library and Butler County Community College Anna Louise Borger Memorial Scholarship Fund.

CLARK, GWENDOLYN

Gwendolyn Clark, 88, Wichita, died Sept. 13, 2005, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, El Dorado. She will be buried at the Blankenship Cemetery.

Gwendolyn was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Greenwood County, the daughter of Oliver Cromwell and Georgia Elliott Crookham. She was a secretary for the Mobil Refinery in Augusta in the 1940s and she also worked at the Towanda Post Office while living there. She was a homemaker and an avid gardener and an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and quilting. She loved to travel and she had lived with her husband, Orval, who worked for Mobil Oil and lived in Libya, Nigeria, Nebraska and Kansas. Her last international trip was taken to Zimbabwe on a mission trip when she was 82 years old. Where ever she lived she was active with family, church and community activities. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Willard Bell and Orval Clark.

Memberships included the First United Methodist Church of Wichita where she was a master quilter. She was a member of the Quilters Circle and the Triad Sunday School Class. She had been a member of the 20th Century Club in Wichita and the Federated Women's Club, Nakomis in Towanda.

Surviving family include three children, Janice and husband, Jack Groh, of Fayetteville, Ark., Craig and wife, Jerrie Clark, of Eureka and Marita and husband, Dan Summers, of Hill City, grandchildren, Sean Groh, Ryan Clark, Traci Clark, Brandon Clark, Valerie Larson and Brian Summers, great-grandchildren, Jess Groh, Jamie Clark, Jacob Larson and Toria Larson.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church TV Ministry or the Heiffer Project International. Contributions may be left with the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home which is assisting the family with their arrangements.
