Godfrey Bohrer. Born on 22 Apr 1833 in Brown County, Ohio. Godfrey died in Chase, Rice County, Kansas on 14 Feb 1920; he was 86. Buried in Graceland Cemetery, Lyons, Rice County, Kansas. Lot 64, Location 65. Occupation: Medical Doctor In Civil War; Farmed After Moving To Kansas In 1873. Education: Diploma Conferred In 1855 By The Eclectic Medical Institute Of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Research: Biographical manuscript in his own hand indicates that he was born in Brown County, Ohio on April 22, 1833, and that he first settled in Rice County, Kansas in 1873. His name appears in the published Kansas register of physicians by the State Board of Health for years 1887, 1892-95, and 1897-98. In some issues his college is not mentioned, but in 1887 the following is reported: age 52 eclectic, 30 years in practice, 12 years in Kansas, diploma conferred 1855 from the Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati. The Directory of the State Government of Kansas for the Years 1877 and 1878 reports that he had a limited common school education, brought up a farmer, "read medicine" in Georgetown, Ohio, took M.D. at Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati in 1855, commenced practice in Highland County, Ohio in 1856, in 1857 removed to Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana which was his place of residence for 16 years.

"Served as assistant surgeon in the 34th Indiana Infantry (Company D), in 1873 removed to Rice County, Kansas, was a farmer and physician, elected in 1876 as a republican from the 114th district. He was elected again as an Independent and served in the Kansas House from 1883-84. There are clippings that indicate that he was one of the "greatest authorities on bees in the state."

On 10 Apr 1856 when Godfrey was 22, he married Maria Bethana Boggess, in Highland County, Ohio.

BRACKEN, MARY RUTH

Mary Ruth Bracken, 73, of El Dorado, died Wednesday Jan. 31 at Susan B Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m today at Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Walnut Valley Memorial Park.

She was born May 8, 1927 to Oberlin and Ruth (Stephens) Holladay in El Dorado. She attended Oil Hill Elementary and graduated from El Dorado High School.

On Aug. 28, 1949 she was married to Charles Kenneth Bracken in El Dorado. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1964. For many years she was an employee of USD #75 Circle School District. She loved to bowl and was active with her children having served both as Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Bracken and Gladys of Ashton, daughters, Shelly and Dave Brown of Arkansas City, Tracey and Alan Swain of Tulsa, Okla., and Cherri and John Cogan of El Dorado, brothers Robert and Donald Holladay of El Dorado, a sister, Margaret Hays of Hays, grandchildren, Melissa and Brandon Ortega, Meghan Bracken, Amanda Bracken, Jessica and Gabe Swain, Kendall and Courtney Cogan, Mike Brown, Robert Borwn and Nakia Brown, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Roland Holladay.

BRADSHAW, RICHARD DICK

Richard Dick Bradshaw, 67, formerly of El Dorado, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at his home in Galax, Va. Church services will be held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina on Friday, June 16, at 11 a.m.

A celebration of his life will be held at JBrian's, 151 N. Main, on Sunday, June 25 at 3 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, son Kurt Bradshaw, daughters, Kathleen Blackburn, Kari Page, Kay McGee, eight sisters, five brothers, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

BREAKER, DARVIN A.

Darvin A. Breaker, 91 of rural Douglass, died Monday, Nov. 13, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane. Interment will be in the Mulvane Cemetery.

He was born July 25, 1909 to Albert and Beulah Louise (Barnett) Breaker in Guthrie, Okla. On Nov. 24, 1927, he was married to Katheryn E. Long in Newton. He worked as a dairy farmer.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Darvin Breaker Jr. of Euless, Texas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma Jeanne Breaker, and a grandson, Dannie Dee Breaker.

BRENNER, GEORGE L.

George L. Brenner, 75, a longtime Potwin resident, died Sunday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospita. Masonic graveside services will be held at noon Wednesday at McGill Cemetery in Potwin. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Potwin Christian Church.

He was born Jan. 9, 1908, in Longton, the son of Charlie M. and Alice (Hall) Brenner. He married Neva Russell on June 26, 1929 in El Dorado. She survives. (El Dorado Times, June 13, 1983)

BRILEY, CARL L.

Carl L. Briley, 80, of Towanda and formerly of Wichita died Saturday morning July 29, 2000 at a local nursing home. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 2 at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 1 at Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Cremation has preceded the services.

He was born May 23, 1920 in Wichita the son of Elmer C. and Vilenea (Buchanon) Briley. He had lived most all of his life in the Wichita area, except for the last four years when he moved to be closer to his son. He and Pauline Osborn were married Feb. 19, 1939, in Wichita. In 1940 and 1941, he was a Sedgwick County Sheriff's officer. He had to use his own vehicle when on patrol, because the county didn't have any patrol cars for their officers at that time. He then became the mechanic for the Wichita Police Department. Then after several years of service with the police force, he was employed by the Collegiate High School in the maintenance department. He retired in 1990. He could spend endless hours in his shop tinkering with engines. He also had a strong affection for his dogs. He was known for one who would stop what ever he wsa doing and give someone a hand in need.

Survivors include wife Pauline of the home, one son and wife Robert and Virginia Briley of Towanda, one brother in law Gene Osborn of Wichita, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Raymond Briley, five brothers and three sisters.

BRILEY, PAULINE F.

Pauline F. Briley, 78, of Towanda, died Monday, Oct. 30, at her residence. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita. Cremation preceded the service.

She was born Sept. 7, 1922 to Hanley and Christina (Geison) Osborn in Greenwish, one of five children. She moved with her parents to Wichita and attended North High School.

On Feb. 19, 1939, she was married to Carl L. Briley in Wichita. They were married for 61 years.

She was a homemaker and in her retirement years, worked at Collegiate High School and Love Box Company in the housekeeping departments. She always had a s smile and a good word for everyone. She loved life and all of God's creatures. When she wasn't cooking or cleaning she was giving all she had to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all, but not forgotten.

Survivors include, a son, Robert Briley and wife Jeane, of Towanda, a brother, Gene Osborn of wichita, sisters, Ruth Harrison and Marjorie Banks, both of cave Junction, Ore; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Raymond Briley her parents and a brother Scott Osborn.

Louise Brinegar, 90 of Towanda, died Thursday, Feb 22, at LakePoint Nursing Center in Eldorado. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb 26 at Carlson Funeral Home, Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

She was born March 31. 1819 to George W. and Etna Electa (Robinette) Sammons. She had lived in Butler County for many years and made her home in Towanda since 1884, moving from Eldorado. She was co-owner and operator of Peter Pan Cleaners for 15 years before retiring, She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Eldorado.

In 1927, she was married to Howard H. Bailey. She later married Carl Brinegar on May 16, 1970. He preceded her in death in January 1986.

Survivors include: sons, Melvin "Bud" Bailey of Eldorado and Donald H Bailey of Clovis, N.M.; daughters, Betty Austin, Jeanienne Wiens and Barbara Brush, of Towanda. And L.A. "Toni" Holbrook of Derby; A sister, Dorothy Buttry of Eldorado; 19 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband in 1985, four brothers and two sisters.

BOLT, BETTY

Betty Bolt, 75, of El Dorado, died Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services were held 11 a.m. today at Carlson Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 17, 1930 at Howard, the daughter of Fern W. and Thelma L. (Hon) Brougher. She came to El Dorado on Oct. 12, 1968 and had made her home here for more than 37 years. Betty worked in food service at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital for 25 years and was the food service supervisor at the time of her retirement in November 1973. She was a member of the Christian Church in Howard.

On Sept. 25, 1948, Betty and Donald R. Bolt were united in marriage in Wichita.

Survivors include her husband of the home, son, Larry and his wife, Stella Bolt of Wichita; daughter, Sandra Bolt of Salina; sister Barbara Gaffney of Augusta and a brother, Wayne and his wife Kay Brougher of Eureka.

Clyde L. Brush, 93, of Towanda, died Saturday at his home in Towanda. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Towanda Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 18, 1908 to Knowles Otto and Lulu G. (Warner) Brush. He lived in the area for 77 years living in Towanda for 65 years.

On November 26, 1927 he was married to Theo G. Ullum in Bird, Ill. He worked for 29 years as a bus driver and custodian for Circle School District and retired in 1982.

Survivors include: a daughter Rowena Moore of Towanda, sons, Bob Brush of Stockton, Fred Brush of Towanda, Bill Brush of Belle Vista, Ark., and Tom Brush of Towanda; sisters, Maxine Buford of Grand Junction, Colo., and Bernice Fadely of El Dorado; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, Dale; and a daughter.

She was born Nov. 6, 1909 to Randolph and Gertrude (Stultz) Ullum near Potwin. She had made her home in Towanda for the past 65 years, moving from Pontiac. She was a homemaker and worked in the lunch room at the Towanda Grade School as a custodian. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Potwin, and the Eastern Star.

On Nov. 26, 1927, she was married to Clyde L. Brush at Birds, Ill.

Survivors include: her husband of the home, sons, Bob Brush of Stockton, Fred Brush of Towanda, Bill Brush of Bella Vista, Ark., and Tom Brush of Towanda; a daughter, Rowena Moore of Towanda; a brother, Kenneth "Ben" Ullum of Potwin; a sister, Billie Tanner of Oregon; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale, three brothers; and three sisters.

He was born March 30, 1946 to Louis M. and Roxie Lena Julian Bryson in Neodesha. He had made his home in El Dorado for many years and was disabled. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

On Dec. 5, 1993 he was married to Marie E. Jones in El Dorado.

Survivors include his wife of the home, a son Eric W. Bryson of El Dorado, step-sons, Che D Vaughters of El Dorado and Joseph R. Vaughters of Wichita, a step-daughter Amy M. Howard of El Dorado, his father of El Dorado, a brother Roger L. Bryson of El Dorado and a sister Peggy L. Smith of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

BUCKMASTER, MARY C.

Mrs. Mary C. Buckmaster, 82, of 900 South Denver, died Monday at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Latham Christian church. Burial will be in the Latham cemetery.

Mrs. Buckmaster lived in El Dorado for two years, moving here from Latham. She resided there from 1941 until 1967. Born at Thayer, Kansas., on March 31, 1887, she was married to the late Ray L. Rhoades at Bolivar, Mo., on Nov. 29, 1908. He died in June 1943. On Feb. 28, 1952 she was married to the late Roy D. Buckmaster at Wichita. He died in January 1958

Prior to moving to Latham, Mrs. Buckmaster lived at Bazaar from 1918 until 1941. She lived at Cottonwood Falls, at Bolivar Mo., and in WIlson county, Kan., before that.

Mrs. Buckmaster was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church at Bolivar.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Helen F. Mansell, 900 South Denver, and Mrs. Catherine A. Baird, 713 North Atchison; two sons, leo C. Rhoades of Butte, Mont., and Ralph E. Rhoades of Burrton; a stepson, Carl Buckmaster of San Diego, Calif., two brothers, Rolla Ryan of Waverly Kan.; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

BUCKMASTER, ROY

Roy was a farmer and farmed in Kansas before moving to Alabama, where he was killed in a truck accident in 1943. After his death, Mary, her daughter Cathy, and a gradnddaughter, Inez, Tallent, whome she was raising, moved to Latham where they stayed with Mary's mother until she died in October 1943. Mary lived in Latham for many years. In 1952, she married Roy Buckmaster. He died in 1958. Mary moved to El Dorado in 1962 where she died in June of 1969. Of Mary's family, Leo, Ralph, Helen, Catherine and Inez all lived in Latham at one or another. (Latham Centennial 1885-1985 - pg. 82)

BURNHAM, JAMES W.

James W. Burnham, 60, of El Dorado, died Friday, Dec. 1, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. interment will follow at Eureka Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 28, 1940 to Alva Milton and Helen (Hartley) Burnham in Eureka. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1958. On July 10, 1962 he was married to Roxee Wilks in Newkirk, Oklahoma.

He was an inventory clerk for Safeway and Food Barn Grocery stores for 38 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of the home, his mother of El Dorado, sons Steven M. Burnham of Wichita, and Thomas W. Burnham of El Dorado, brothers, Phillip Michael Burnham of Great Bend, Max Burnham of Madison and Daryl Burnham of El Dorado and sisters, Marilyn Reiserer of El Dorado, Dixie Gilson of Juwait and Rochelle Denner of Golden, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was born Sept. 11, 1972, to Johnnie and Gayle Mitchell Burris in Drumright, Okla. He spent most of his life in El Dorado. He was a member of the Trumpets of the Lord at Augusta and the El Dorado Health Club, where he did weight lifting.

Survivors include his father, Johnnie Burris of Oklahoma; his mother and stepfather Gayle and Donald Simmons of Wichita, brothers, Steven Burris and John Simmons both of El Dorado, a sister, Kelsey Burris, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his grandmother Irene Mitchell of El Dorado, his grandfather Johnnie Burris of Drumright, Okla., and an uncle Gary L. Mitchell of El Dorado.

Clifford Burrows, 56, of Afton, Okla. and formerly of El Dorado, died Tuesday morning at Wesley medical Center in Wichita. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kirby Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

Mr. Burrows was born Sept. 7, 1929 in Madison, the son of Jay and Belle Hobson Burrows. On Sept. 4, 1948, he was married to Alice Faye Crider in El Dorado. He has been employed by Fluor Construction as manager of construction. He was a member of Local 171 of the Pipefitters Union.

Surviving family members include his wife, Alice Faye, of the home, one daughter, Mrs. Cindy McNary of El Dorado, three brothers, Dellmar of Lane, Jay, Jr. of Anaheim, Calif., and Dan of Ocean Springs, Miss.; one sister, Mrs. Jean Bishop of Wichita; and one granddaughter Kelly Burrows of Wichita.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

BUSHNELL, TROY CHAD

Troy Chad Bushnell, 31, of rural El Dorado, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at his home. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 12 at Carlson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Andover Cemetery.

He was born May 25, 1975 in Wichita, the son of Robert D. and Nellie (Brown) Bushnell. He worked as a diesel mechanic for LaFarge Company. Troy had lived all his life in Butler County and for many years in Andover.

On June 26, 2004 he and Angela Pottorff-Hodge were united in marriage in Towanda.

Survivors include: his wife of the home; son, Jason Hodge of the home; daughters, Angel Hodge and Haley Hodge, both of the home; parents, Robert and Nellie Bushnell of Andover; brothers, Todd Bushnell and Shawn Bushnell, both of Andover; sister, Sharon Smith and husband Terry of Wichita; nephews, Brent Smith and wife Crystal and Joshua Smith; niece, Jennifer Smith; a great-niece, Savannah Smith; and several aunts and uncles.

Troy loved motorcycles, the outdoors and most of all his family and many friends who will greatly miss him.

BUSKIRK, FRANCIS LEROY

Francis Leroy Buskirk was born April 12, 1883 at Augusta Kansas, moving soon to Latham. He married Helen Valentine Huff born February 13, 1889 at Bethany, Mo., on October 21, 1906. Burial for both has been at Walnut Valey Memorial Park Cemetery at El Dorado Kansas. Frank died August 1961 and Helen died January, 196?. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Latham Christian Church.

Vina Emily (Cobb) Boucher Vina Emily (Cobb) Boucher, 101, Mt. Vernon, passed away Thursday morning, March 19, 2009, at 3:15 a.m., in Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon. Vina was born in Douglass, Kansas, the youngest of nine children, and grew up in Kansas, living there most of her life before moving to Missouri in 1979. She was a rural school teacher for eight years and head cook in the Andover School District cafeteria for 23 years. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, where she was active in church activities. She loved to cook and was admired for her wonderful donuts as well as many other delicious creations. Vina Cobb and Charley Boucher were united in marriage on April 22, 1933. To this union five children were born. Together they were privileged to share 48 years. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1981. Also preceding her were her parents, Joseph and Emma Jessup Cobb; one son, Charles Boucher; three sons-in-law; and one grandson-in-law. She is survived by four daughters, Loretta and husband, Lee Gardner of Halltown, Missouri, Rosemary and husband, Dan Keener, Ringold, Oklahoma, Sharell McGrew, Palm Springs, California, and Carol and husband, Dick Hoffine, Lenexa, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, anxiously awaiting another in July. Services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009, at 11 a.m., in Church of Christ, Mt. Vernon, with Ed Pearson officiating. Interment will follow in Richland Cemetery, Douglass, Kansas, on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, with a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., with Joe Taylor speaking. Arrangements are under the care and directions of Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home of Ash Grove, Missouri. Friends may call today after 2:30 p.m., in the Ash Grove chapel, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to the Youth Department of Mt.
