COMPTON, BOB G.

Bob G. Compton, 44, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and a former El Dorado resident, died Wednesday night at Broken Arrow Memorial Hospital. Services are pending.

He was the owner and manager of Daylight Donuts in Tulsa. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1958 and was also a graduate of Butler County Community College and Wichita State University.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home, two daughters, Sherri Clark of Broken Arrow and Carla Nation of Bosier City, LA., one granddaughter, Melissa Clark, his parents, Carl and Marie Compton, 907 N. Gordy, three brothers, Jerry Compton of El Dorado, Jim Compton of Valley Center and Lon Compton of Dallas; and a sister, Donna (Mrs. Darrell) Dunn of Valley Center. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 24, 1985)

COOPER, HARRY L.

Harry L. Cooper, 71, of Great Bend, died Friday, Feb. 21 at Titusville, Fla. Services for Mr. Cooper will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carlson Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born May 27, 1914 at Big Isaac, W. Va., the son of Amp and Sigourna Mathers Cooper. He was a retired welder and had owned his own welding business in Great Bend. He grew up and attended school in El Dorado and moved to Hutchinson after his marriage to Velma Jones on Dec. 3, 1934 at Eureka. After their marriage they moved to Hutchinson, and had also lived at Chase, where he worked for Skelly Gas.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, Great Bend Masonic Lodge, No. 015, A. F. and A. M., Elks Lodge, Lake Barton Golf Club; Scottish Rite and Consistory at Wichita; and a former member of the Isis Shrine in Salina.

He is survived by his wife, Velma of the home; a son, Gerald Cooper of Lafayette, Ind., a daughter, Beverly Tullis of Titusville, his mother, Mrs. Sigourna Cooper of Grove City, Penn., a brother, Oscar Cooper of Grove City, and five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mr. Cooper was also the brother in law of Ernest Jones and Keith Jones both of El Dorado and Glenn Jones of Inman.

A Masonic service will be conducted following the funeral by Patmos Lodge No. 97 for the Great Bend Lodge No. 015. The oration will be given by C. Verne Myers. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 26, 1986)

COPELAND, V. J. "JIM"

V. J. "Jim" Copeland, 56, of Howard, former Elk County sheriff, died Saturday, December 5, 1987. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville. He is survived by step-daughters, Peggy Moore and DeAnn Camp both of Augusta.

Other survivors include his wife, Helen; daughter, Teresa Carmichael of Emporia, step-sons, Ed Triboulet of Moline, Jeff Triboulet of Gulfport, Miss., James Triboulet of Howard, step-daughters Carolyn Corle of Elk Falls, Betty Sauer of Wichita, Juanita Miller of Grenola, parents, Earl and Myrtle Eunice Copeland of Bucklin, brothers, Ernest of Littleton, Colo., Lawrence of Keys, Okla., three grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren. Memorials have been established with the Elk County Ministerial Alliance and the St. Francis Endowment Association Oncology Unit, Wichita. Zimmerman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. COPELAND, MARTIN E.

Funeral services for Martin E. Copeland, 61, of Rosalia, were held Friday morning, Oct. 18 at the Carlson Colonial Chapel. Burial followed in the Blakenship Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The Rev. Harold Mace, pastor of the Rosalia United Methodist Church, officiated at the service.

Casket bearers were Blaine Watts, Ronnie Rogers, Joe Cope, Tom Hinton, Dean Bender, Steve Cope and Richard Dorsett. Honorary bearers were Paul Fling, Paul Nelson, Dallas Flowers, Burl Latta, Lee Robinson, Lloyd Gray, Karl Nelson, John Cargill and Joe Wise. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 22, 1985)

CORBIN, HELEN HART

Helen Hart Corbin, 68, of Route 1, Towanda, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1987 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta.

She was born March 6, 1918 at Rural Route 1, Augusta, the daughter of Elmer Hart and Hazel (McGlade) Hart. She was married May 5, 1943 in Augusta to Stanley Corbin. He survives.

Mrs. Corbin was a homemaker.

Other survivors include one son, Marc of Augusta, one daughter, Marcia Bevins of Pensacola, Fla., one brother, Orville Hart of Augusta and three grandchildren.

CORFMAN, A. DAVID

A. David Corfman, 82 of 412 Houser drive, a retired farmer and veterinary surgeon who had lived in Butler County since 1886, died this morning at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. O. J. Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be in the Wonsevu cemetery with Odd Fellow rites at the graveside.

Mr. Corfman was born in Hancock county, Ohio on July 22, 1884, and came to Kansas with his parents in 1886. They settled in the Brainerd community. He lived in the Brainerd, Potwin and Burns area most of his life except for a few years at Cedar Point. Mr. Corfman lived east of Leon for 10 years prior to moving to El Dorado in 1952.

He was married to Lydia Spain at Newton on Aug. 12, 1908. She died in 1942. He later was married to Stella Canady at Eureka.

Mr. Corfman was a member of El Dorado Lodge 74, IOOF; of El Dorado Encampment 56; he was past noble grand and a past patriarch; and was formerly a member o fthe Rebekah Lodge.

Surviving are his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Virgil Volk, 1315 Country Club road, Mrs. Forrest Chapman, 819 West Fourth avenue, Mrs. Harold C. Chapman, Yates Ceneter, and Mrs. Dewey McCracken of Hiattsville, Kan., three sons, J. C. Corfman of Emporia, Walter Corfman of Wichita and Glenn L. Corfman, 1120 South Summit street, a stepson, Chester E. Canady, Wichita and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Cain, Peabody. There are 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Two children and three sisters preceded Mr. Corman in death. (El Dorado Times, Feb. 17, 1967)

Funeral services for A. David Corfman, 82, of 412 Houser drive, who died Friday, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Kirby Funeral Home chapel.

The Rev. O. J. Bernhardt officiated. Mrs. Randolph Kasper and Mrs. Chester Socbee sang "In the Garden," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "The Last Mile of the Way." Accompanied by Mrs. John K. Bevan at the organ.

Casket bearers were William Knapp, C. C. Flood, Paul L. Rogers, George P. Bobbitt, Murray McCormick, and Dr. George W. Campbell. Burial was in Wonsevu Cemetery in Chase county with Odd Fellows rites by El Dorado Lodge 74, IOOF, A. M. Redburn, noble grand.

CORFMAN, JACOB C. "JAKE"

Jacob "Jake" C. Corfman, 76, of Emporia, died Thursday at Newman Memorial County Hospital in Emporia. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Blair-Carlson Mortuary in Emporia.

He was born Sept. 14, 1909 in Burns, the son of David and Lydia (Spain) Corfman. He was married to Carol Doornbos June 2, 1934 in El Dorado. She survives.

He was a retired engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of Zeredatha Lodge Masonic Lodge No. 80, Cottonwood Falls, Scottish Rite; Topeka Consistory; Kansas Peace Officers Association; and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He attended the Cottonwood Falls High School. He went to work for the railroad at the age of 18 and retired in 1973.

Other survivors include one brother, Glenn Corfman of El Dorado, four sisters, Gladys Volk of El Dorado, Nellie Chapman of El Dorado and Bessie Mae McCracken of Fort Scott.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Maryln Kay; and two brothers, Walter and David.

Memorial contributions are to the First United Methodist Church of Emporia and can be sent in care of Blair-Carlson Mortuary in Emporia, which is in charge of arrangements. (El Dorado Times, Sept. 27, 1985)

CORFMAN, KENNETH J.

Kenneth J. Corfman, 68, of Whitewater, farmer and stockman, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1987. Service was at 1:30 p.m. today at Palmyra Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, daughter, Sandra Qamar of Newton; brother, Dell of Whitewater, sisters, Francis Voth of Newton and Berneil Voth of Whitewater and two grandchildren.

Memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

CORFMAN, LUCILE

Lucile Corfman, 81, of Newton, retired nurse's aide and cook and mother of Dean Corfman of Whitewater and Wanda Biggs of Potwin, died Friday, July 11, 1986. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ in Newton.

She was born Nov. 1, 1904 in Sedgwick County, the daughter of Frank Austin and Lilly Mae (Lewis) Gale. She was married Feb. 6, 1924 in rural Furly to Roy Corfman. He preceded her in death in 1964.

Formerly she worked for the Friendly Acres Nursing Home and the Kansas Christian Home both in Newton. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Newton.

Other survivors include son, Dale of Newton, daughter Waunita Douglass of Hutchinson, brother, Ray Gale of Furley, sister Audrey Jordan of Newton and nine grandchildren.

Memorial has been established with the Church of Christ Bus Ministry.

Services for Lucile Corfman, 81, of Newton and formerly of Whitewater were held July 15, 1986 at the Church of Christ in Newton. Burial followed in the Whitewater Cemetery. She died July 11, 1986.

Church Stephens officiated at the services with the Church of Christ singers providing music including "The Little Brown Church in the Vale," "Amazing Grace," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Casket bearers included Dennis Garrison, Allen Shepherd, George Moland, Dan Nobles, Harry Hanke and Gary Kingsley.

COTTON, ZACHARY DANIEL

Zachary Daniel Cotton, 18-month-old son of Claudies and Rosalie Cochran Cotton of 1302 E. MacArthur in Wichita and grandson of Eugene Cochran of Whitewater, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1986. Service was at 2 p.m. today at Lamb Mortuary in Whitewater.

Other survivors include a brother, Jon at home; half-brothers, Charles Lee at home, Michael Allen of Hillsboro and Kenny of Wichita, and half-sisters, Patricia of Marion, Brenda of Wichita and Sandra and Crystal Gale, both of Idaho. (El Dorado Times, Oct. 13, 1986)

COURTNEY, LEON

Leon Courtney, 100 of Winfield, retired rancher, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1987. Service is 2 p.m. today at Mulvane Cemetery.

COUSINS, EVELYN

Evelyn Cousins, 52, of Gautier, Miss., former Douglas resident, homemaker, died Wednesday, March 18, 1987. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Douglass Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; sons, Larry of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Richard II of Gautier; stepson, Richard of Summerville, S. C., sister, Virginia Brewer of Rossville, Ga., and two grandchildren.

COWING, CLAUDIE (HARDMAN)

Claudie (Hardman) Cowing, 81, of Andover, homemaker, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1987. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Andover.

CROOK, VIRGINIA E.

Services were held Wednesday morning in St. John's Catholic Church for Miss Virginia Crook of Osawatomie who died Friday, June 30, in Miami County Hospital at Paola. The Rev. Fr. Michael Blackledge officiated. The casket bearers were Richard Price, Robert Nichols, Dr. Alferado Hernandez, Lawrence Lipscomb, Charles Lipscomb and Dale Covert. Military rites and interment were at Sunset Lawns. Recitation of the Rosary was at the Kirby Funeral Home Tuesday night.

Miss Crook was born February 24, 1915 in El Dorado, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Irving Crook (Mary Brewer) and was graduated from El Dorado High School, El Dorado Junior College, Wichita University and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She received a Master's degree in psychology from University of Kansas Lawrence.

During World War II, Miss Crook served with the Army Nurse Corps in the South Pacific. For a time she was a social worker with Catholic Charities in Wichita and since 1958, had been a social worker with Osawatomie State Hospital. She had never married.

Miss Crook was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Retired Officers Association of Social Workers, Southeast Conference of Welfare and Social Workers; Kansas State Nurses Association; Kansas University and Wichita University Alumnae associations.

Surviving are a brother, a niece and nephew, Howard I. Crook, Miss Suzanne Crook and Daniel Crook of 812 West Second avenue, El Dorado.

CONDELL, LOGAN

Logan Condell, 81, Butler County Rancher, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1993. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Chelsea Cemetery.

He was born in Chelsea Township, Sept. 6, 1912, the son of John and Ella Logan Condell. He attended Benson Grade School and El Dorado High School. After high school he worked for the Hazlett Ranch outside of El Dorado. He developed an interest in mechanics at an early age and with the help of a high school auto mechanic course he became a self-taught master mechanic. He worked for several El Dorado car dealerships, including the Ford and International dealerships. This led to a partnership in his own Hudson Automobile dealership. He also worked for George Blackburn Construction from 1960 until retiring in March, 1978. He spent all of his life in this area. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

On Sept. 30, 1939, he married Lydia Anna Spinden in Halstead. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1987.

Survivors include: son, John L. Condell, Jr. of El Dorado; daughter, Ellen Sprecher of Forth Worth, Texas; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Memorial in his memory for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University may be left at Carlson Funeral Home, who is in charge of the arrangements. (El Dorado Times ~ 20 September 1930)

CROOK, MARY ANN BREWER (MRS. JACOB I.)

Rites Saturday for Mrs. Jacob I. Crook

Services for Mrs. Jacob I. Crook (Mary Ann Brewer) whose death occurred February 23 were at St. John's Catholic Church Saturday morning, the Rev. Father Daniel B. Mulvhill officiating. The casket bearers were Billy Lipscomb, Charles Lipscomb, Lawrence Lipscomb, Hubert Lipscomb, Delmer Morris and Dale Covert. Interment was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. A recitation of the Rosary was Friday at the Kirby Funeral Home.

Mrs. Crook who had lived in El Dorado since her marriage December 26, 1907 at Marion, was born January 10, 1882 in Florence. She had been ill four months. Her talents were expended in devotion to her church, family and home. She was a member of St. John's Church and Altar Society.

Surviving are Mr. Crook; the daughter Virginia, of the home; a son, Howard Crook of El Dorado; three sisters, Miss Belle Brewer of the home; Mrs. Mae Snodgrass, Berkeley, Calif., and Mrs. Theresa Walker, Kansas City, Mo; and two grandchildren, Suzanne and Daniel Crook. CORNELIUS SERVICES WEDNESDAY

Martha E. Cornelius, 93, of Augusta, a homemaker, died Sunday. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood cemetery in Augusta.

LAWRENCE E. "MUTT" CORNELIUS

Lawrence E. "Mutt" Cornelius, age 74, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1989, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dunsford Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 22, 1914 at Augusta, the son of Ralph and Martha (Layton). Cornelius. He married Rowena Patterson, May 7, 1938 at Wichita. She survives, along with two sisters, Paulene Peterson of Omaha, Neb., and Bernice Carter of Denver, Colo. Memorial: New children's department, Augusta, United Methodist Church.
